New Original Yukata From "Mika Ninagawa with EiM × Dogo Art" Debuts in Two Vivid Designs at Ehime's Dogo Onsen

The Dogo area of Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, has been working to revitalize the neighborhood through art since 2014. Since October 2025, the project "Mika Ninagawa with EiM × Dogo Art" has brought artwork to the district's hot spring facilities and shopping street.

As part of that project, an original yukata designed by photographer Mika Ninagawa debuted in August 2026, and it's now available to rent for guests staying at the participating hotels and ryokan.

About "Mika Ninagawa with EiM × Dogo Art"

Dogo Onsen Honkan, a National Important Cultural Property, marked the 130th anniversary of its reconstruction in 2024. To celebrate, the district invited photographer, film director, and contemporary artist Mika Ninagawa, along with her creative team EiM, to present "Mika Ninagawa with EiM × Dogo Art" (running from October 2025 through February 2027). It's Ninagawa's fourth time taking part in Dogo's art initiatives.

The project is themed "A Bath Where Life Blooms — A Place for Blooming." Works are displayed across Dogo Onsen Honkan, Dogo Onsen Annex Asuka no Yu, and Dogo Shopping Street, offering visitors unforgettable scenery.

An Original Yukata Designed by Mika Ninagawa

On August 3, an original yukata that lets wearers experience Dogo's art firsthand made its debut.

It comes in two designs, both built around graphics drawn from Ninagawa's photography.

One is the "camellia" pattern, centered on the flower that symbolizes Dogo, with blossoms in full bloom and butterflies rendered in vivid color. The other is the "wagasa" pattern, featuring colorful Japanese umbrellas, shoji screens, cherry blossoms, and other distinctly Japanese motifs.

Guests can borrow the yukata by staying at one of the participating hotels or ryokan, and the garment is designed to be put on easily.
