A special collaboration bringing Hawaiian artistry to Japanese yukata is on display at the Hankyu Umeda Main Store. Kimono and yukata brand EMON (エモン) has partnered with Naomi Iida, a Hawaiian quilt artist and founder of the Hawaiian quilt school "NAOMI QUILT," to create a collection of Hawaiian-inspired yukata available at the store's 11th floor kimono section from July 1 (Wednesday) to July 7 (Tuesday), 2026.

The collaboration coincides with Hankyu's Hawaii Fair 2026, a popular overseas-themed event series. The collection showcases traditional Hawaiian quilt motifs — including Hawaii's natural landscapes, plants, and sea creatures — reimagined as yukata fabric dyed in Kyoto by Okajū.

The Collection

"Plumeria" Yukata

Belt, sandals, and basket bag shown are reference items.

Plumeria, known as "Puamelia" in Hawaiian, carries the meaning of wishing happiness for loved ones. One of Hawaii's most iconic flowers, it blooms in warm tropical climates and holds the symbolism of "warmth of the sun" and "passion." This design captures the sweetly fragrant plumeria in a graceful gradient pattern.

"Honu" Yukata

Belt, sandals, and basket bag shown are reference items.

"Honu" is the Hawaiian word for sea turtle, revered in Hawaii as a guardian spirit of the ocean. This design incorporates the honu into a tribal pattern.

Both the "Plumeria" and "Honu" designs are printed on cotton komaya fabric and dyed at Kyoto's Okajū.
