Sleep Tourism at Lake Biwa — Everglades Biwako Launches "Good Sleep Stay" with Canoeing, Campfire, and Simmons Beds

Camfort, the glamping facility at Everglades Biwako in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, is launching a new "Good Sleep Stay" plan starting Saturday, May 9, 2026. The plan is designed around the concept of sleep tourism, treating canoeing, campfire, Simmons beds, and digital detox as a natural lead-up to deeper rest. A tent sauna joins the lineup on weekends (Friday through Monday), creating two distinct versions of the experience depending on the day.

Good Sleep Starts Before You Get Into Bed

The philosophy behind this plan is straightforward: many people still feel tired after a full night's sleep, and the cause often lies in how they spend their time before bed. Rather than layering on more activities, the approach is about subtraction — stripping away distractions and allowing the body and mind to ease into sleep naturally.

Two Plans Depending on the Day of the Week

Weekday Digital Detox Plan (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) — Quiet Simplicity

On weekdays, without the tent sauna, the emphasis is on stillness. A simple sequence of experiences guides guests toward a calm, restorative sleep.

Weekend Deep Reset Plan (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday) — Full Reset Experience

The weekend plan adds a tent sauna to the weekday lineup, with Lake Biwa serving as a natural cold-water plunge pool. This full reset — sauna, cold plunge, and outdoor relaxation — is designed to rebalance the autonomic nervous system before sleep.

Private canoe experience on Omi-Maiko Naiko at Everglades Biwako

A private canoe session on Omi-Maiko Naiko — an inner lake near Lake Biwa — opens up a wide expanse of water and sky, offering a clear shift away from the pace of everyday life.

Tent sauna with Lake Biwa as the cold plunge — weekend only

On weekends, guests can experience a tent sauna with an aromatic löyly session, then step directly into Lake Biwa for a cold plunge. The combination is aimed at fully resetting the body and nervous system. (Weekend plan only)

From outdoor relaxation to campfire, quieting the mind before sleep

After the sauna — or as the evening winds down on weekdays — guests gather around a campfire. The gentle flicker of the flames is meant to calm the mind and complete the transition toward sleep.

Outdoor bath and Simmons bed — the final stage of the sleep experience

The stay includes access to an outdoor bath, and each Camfort site is fitted with a Simmons bed. The full sequence of experiences is designed to bring guests to this final stage in a state of genuine physical and mental calm.

Self-Directed Digital Detox

A smartphone storage box is available for guests to rent. Whether to use it is entirely each guest's own decision — no pressure either way. The idea is that choosing to set down the phone freely, rather than being required to, changes the quality of the experience.

Who This Plan Is For

  • Business professionals dealing with mental fatigue
  • Freelancers or shift workers looking to make the most of weekdays off
  • Couples or women looking to reset their senses
  • Anyone wanting to fully recharge body and mind over a weekend
