The 7th Installment of Chef Komoda's Supervised Series Features the Series' First Chinese Bun from the Sichuan Master

Chef Komoda Kinya is a leading Chinese cuisine chef in Japan who serves as the owner-chef of the hot pot specialty restaurant "Fire Hole 4000" and executive chef of the creative Chinese restaurant "4000 Chinese Restaurant." He is also renowned as a master of Sichuan cuisine.

Since 2023, FamilyMart has had Chef Komoda supervise various products, and the delicate, deep flavors of Sichuan cuisine's aroma, numbing spice, and umami created through Chef Komoda's unique vision have received high praise from many customers. The series has exceeded 4 million units sold (as of the end of November 2025), making it a highly popular series.

For the 7th installment, the series debuts its first Chinese bun—a winter staple—with "Mala Cheese Nikuman," which combines the stimulating mala flavor originating from Sichuan Province, China, with rich, umami-filled cheese that appeals to Japanese tastes. This authentic, addictively spicy bun is a hallmark of Chef Komoda's supervision.

Additionally, the packaged prepared foods lineup welcomes "Black Vinegar Subuta," featuring tender pork thigh meat coated with a black vinegar sauce that blends Zhenjiang aromatic vinegar, Chinese soy sauce aged wine (laojiu), grape juice, and more—a classic Chinese dish making its debut.

Please enjoy this authentic Chinese cuisine packed with Chef Komoda's attention to detail.

Comments from Sichuan Cuisine Master Chef Komoda Kinya

For the Mala Cheese Nikuman, while centering on the stimulating "mala" characteristic of Sichuan cuisine, I layered the richness of cheese and the umami of Japanese-style dashi to create a flavor you won't tire of until the last bite.

For the Black Vinegar Subuta, I focused on the vinegar blend and heat application to ensure the black vinegar's acidity doesn't dominate, allowing the fruity notes and richness to spread naturally.
