About FUTATABI FUTABA FUKUSHIMA

The hotel sits adjacent to the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum and the Fukushima Reconstruction Memorial Park, which opened on May 2. It is designed to serve as a hub for regional renewal and exchange.

Hotel Concept

To reclaim the nature and industries of Futaba (Regeneration).

To encounter the charm of this town and its people once again (Reunion).

And to make visitors want to return to this place (Revisit).

The hotel takes its name from the Japanese word "futatabi," meaning "once again." It aims to be a place where visitors can step back, reflect on their mind and body, and find quiet balance in harmony with the local community.

Entrance Artwork: "Between Us"

Entrance artwork

Entrance artwork

The artwork installed at the hotel entrance, titled "Between Us," explores the theme of connection — between people, and between the land and memory. It is composed of multiple wooden pillars that lean against and support one another as they stand upright. The pillars vary in shape and thickness, representing the diversity of people connected to Futaba Town: adults, children, those who have returned to the town, and those visiting for the first time.

The pillars are surfaced with Japanese washi paper, with sherds of Obori-Soma-yaki pottery — a tradition originating in Namie Town, Fukushima, with over 300 years of history — and Kutani-yaki pottery from Ishikawa Prefecture embedded beneath. By reassembling ceramic fragments born from the disaster and from the creative process itself, the work expresses "regeneration" and "the creation of new value."

Positioned at the threshold of the hotel, the installation quietly conveys FUTATABI FUTABA FUKUSHIMA's core philosophy: a place where people, land, and time come together and begin to move forward, once again.
