A traditional herbal liqueur from the island of Ibiza, Spain — Mari Mayans Hierbas Ibicencas (commonly known as Hierbas) — has received the Best Spirits Award in the IGP category at the "Alimentos de España 2025," a prestigious food and gastronomy award organized by Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA).
About the Award
The Alimentos de España (Foods of Spain) award was established in 1987 by Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and is considered one of the highest honors in the country's food and gastronomy sector. For the 2025 Best Spirits Award (IGP category), eight products were entered and evaluated through a blind tasting and document review conducted by experts from the Royal Gastronomy Academy, the Spanish Tasters Association, the Distilled Spirits Association, and government specialists.

The judges highlighted Hierbas' elegance, outstanding balance, and exceptionally high quality. The award also recognized the brand's ability to embody the aromas of Mediterranean herbs and the Ibiza lifestyle, along with the craft production methods that the Marí Mayans family has passed down through five generations since 1880, and their commitment to a circular economy through collaboration with local farmers.

A Brand Rooted in Ibiza's Heritage
The Marí Mayans family founded their distillery in 1880, establishing the first distillery on the island of Ibiza. Over five generations, they have continued to preserve traditional production methods rooted in the botanical research and distillation techniques passed down from founder Juan Marí Mayans.
Working closely with local farmers, they have developed their craft of producing liqueurs using aromatic plants native to the island. Today, the brand is a major producer of PGI-designated (Protected Geographical Indication) "Hierbas Ibicencas," maintaining traditional processes including distillation, infusion, and maceration, while remaining deeply rooted in the culture and landscape of Ibiza.
