Hiokihama Villa, a one-group-per-day private retreat in Miyazu, Kyoto Prefecture, has unveiled a new cube-shaped private sauna — SAUNA SPACIOUS HEAT — on its grounds overlooking Miyazu Bay.
Nestled directly in front of the calm waters of Miyazu Bay, Hiokihama Villa is a single-villa accommodation that offers an exclusive stay away from the noise of everyday life. With the addition of the new sauna, guests can now enjoy a full wellness circuit — from bathing in the rare natural hot spring "Kin Onsen" (金温泉), to a self-löyly sauna session, to cooling off in the private pool and relaxing on the terrace with the sea breeze — all without sharing the space with anyone else.

Background: Wellness Stays for a Hotter Era
As summer temperatures increasingly reach extreme highs in Japan, travel preferences are shifting from simply escaping the heat to curating a private, wellness-focused retreat. Responding to this trend, Hiokihama Villa is introducing SAUNA SPACIOUS HEAT to combine the already rare Kin Onsen with a proper private sauna, creating a new style of retreat suited to today's climate.
SAUNA SPACIOUS HEAT

The new private sauna features a stylish cube design with a six-layer steel-finish roof and four-layer walls, delivering high insulation and durability. Inside, a spacious two-tier bench faces a full-width glass wall with panoramic views of Miyazu Bay. The sauna is built with Japanese timber whose natural scent fills the air, and guests can pour water over drop-shaped sauna stones for a proper self-löyly experience.
Natural Hot Spring → Private Pool Cool-Down → Open-Air Relaxation

The outdoor bath is fed by the natural hot spring Kin Onsen (sodium-chloride strong brine spring), prized for its warming and moisturizing properties. After warming up in the hot spring and sauna, guests can use the private pool as a cold plunge. For the final step, reclining chairs on the terrace offer an open-air relaxation space where the Miyazu Bay sea breeze and sound of waves provide a fully private "totonou" moment.
Inclusive Wellness Amenities

To complement the sauna and hot spring experience, the room comes stocked with sauna drinks, housemade soup, beverages, and an original herbal tea that can also be used as löyly water — all included as complimentary amenities. The setup is designed so that both sauna enthusiasts and companions who prefer a more relaxed stay can each enjoy the time at their own pace.
