HINATA Oshima: A Passport-Free Island Escape
The resort is located on Oshima, an unspoiled uninhabited island floating off the coast of Nichinan City, surrounded by the crystal-clear waters of what locals call "Nichinan Blue." The entire island is part of a national park, and the concept behind the resort is a genuine escape from everyday life — described as "a stay unlike anything you know, without a passport."
Step onto the island and you enter a world of subtropical jungle and quiet solitude.
A Special Cruise Plan to the "Island Full of Breathing Room"

Oshima became uninhabited around 2015. It is now being transformed, under the concept "余白に満ちる島、HINATA大島" (an island full of breathing room), into an authentic retreat completely cut off from daily life.
Guests can reach the island via two access options: an elegant approximately 10-minute cruise from the port, or a direct helicopter charter from Miyazaki Airport arriving in around 20 minutes. During the cruise, guests can enjoy the sight of Oshima rising above the horizon — and on lucky days, might even spot dolphins leaping from the sea. On the helicopter journey, guests pass over Miyazaki landmarks such as Aoshima Island and Udo Jingu Shrine, and on clear days can catch a distant glimpse of the Kirishima mountain range. Both routes offer views of the beautiful Hyuganada Sea in good weather throughout the year.
Japanese Modern Spaces and Island History Experiences

The guest rooms, reception area, and restaurant are all designed with a "Japanese modern" aesthetic. The sauna features a tatami-style floor and a warm wooden interior, with views of the surrounding scenery visible from inside. Accessed by stepping up into the space, it is conceived as an independent room in the style of a traditional tea room rather than a simple extension of a bath area.
Guests can also explore the island's rich natural environment and history through a horse trail experience. Even though the island has been uninhabited since around 2015, it still hosts Japan's first unreinforced concrete lighthouse and is home to the Asagimadara butterfly, which travels over 1,000 kilometers. Amidst this historically shaped natural landscape, guests can take their time to simply breathe.
Reservations Now Open
The resort will feature five "Ocean Villa" units for two guests and two "Ocean Suite Villa" units for two to four guests — seven villas in total. A special new-opening limited price plan is planned, covering round-trip helicopter or cruise transfers, one night's accommodation with two meals, and a horse trail experience, starting from ¥150,000 per person (subject to change).
