Marinetopia Resort, operated by Nishigaki Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture; president: Shunpei Nishigaki), is adding a new stay plan at two of its exclusive villas near Amanohashidate in Kyoto — Miyazu Harbor and Amanohashidate MEZZO ALL SUITE VILLAS. The plan pairs waterfall bathing at Kanabiki Falls with a wood-fired tent sauna, continuing from last season. It begins October 1, 2026, with stays available through April 30, 2027.
The setting is Kanabiki Falls, the only waterfall in Kyoto Prefecture selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls (about 40 m tall, 20 m wide). Because it keeps a steady flow of water year-round, the waterfall bathing stays powerful even as the water temperature drops through autumn, winter, and spring.

Not warm-then-cool: 30 minutes of waterfall bathing, then a wood-fired tent sauna
A typical sauna session warms the body first, then cools it. This plan reverses that order: guests are chilled by the waterfall, then warmed back up by the heat of a wood fire.
The plan combines 30 minutes of waterfall bathing with up to 90 minutes in the tent sauna. Guests can choose a start time of 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, or 10:00 AM — all finishing in the morning, so the rest of the day stays free at the villa. The plan is open to guests in junior high school and older, with stays available from October 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027.
The later the season, the colder the waterfall's water becomes, widening the contrast with the wood-fired sauna that follows.
The experience, start to finish
The Kanabiki Falls waterfall-bathing experience built into the plan runs from October through April, excluding the New Year holiday period.
Guests gather at Kanabiki Falls, change, and receive a purification prayer before entering the water for about 30 minutes. A tent sauna set up beside the falls follows, for up to 90 minutes, before guests disperse on-site. Bookings must be made by 5 days before the stay.
White robes are provided, so there's no need to bring your own. Guests should bring a bath towel, swimwear, a rash guard or T-shirt, a change of clothes, and beach sandals.
The tent sauna is included in the stay plan — tent, wood stove, firewood, and chairs are all provided, so there's no need to bring any equipment.
Participation requires guests to be in junior high school or older, not under the influence of alcohol, free of chronic illness or disease, and not experiencing poor health or extreme sleep deprivation. Guests who are pregnant are asked not to participate.
Kanabiki Falls: about 40 meters tall, with water flowing year-round
Kanabiki Falls is located in Takiba, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture. It drops about 40 meters over a width of about 20 meters, keeping a steady flow of water throughout the year. The water splits into two as it falls — 男滝 (the male falls) on the right and 女滝 (the female falls) on the left. Together with the Hakuryu and Garyu falls downstream, they are collectively known as Kanabiki Falls.
It is the only waterfall in Kyoto Prefecture selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls.
In summer, the falls draw visitors looking to cool off. This plan uses the same waterfall as a destination from October through April instead.
Access: about 5 minutes by car from the Miyazu-Amanohashidate IC. Park at the Takiba Park lot (about 20 spaces), then walk about 500 meters, or about 10 minutes, to the trailhead.
Where guests return afterward: hot springs at both villas
Miyazu Harbor has a pool that extends out over Miyazu Bay and an artificial hot spring, "Tennen Koseki Kuguriyu." Amanohashidate MEZZO ALL SUITE VILLAS has the natural hot spring "Gin Onsen" in all 4 of its villas, along with an open-air bath with a jacuzzi. Guests can return to a hot spring within the same stay, after being chilled by the falls and warmed by the tent sauna.
The shape of a day: the experience wraps up by midday, leaving the afternoon at the villa
The four start times, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, are set so that the experience finishes in the morning, leaving the rest of the day at the villa. Even with the latest time slot, 30 minutes of waterfall bathing plus up to 90 minutes in the tent sauna still wraps up by early afternoon.
Back at the villa, Miyazu Harbor offers its infinity pool and the artificial hot spring "Tennen Koseki Kuguriyu," while MEZZO offers the natural hot spring "Gin Onsen" and an open-air bath with a jacuzzi. It becomes a three-part sequence: cooled by the falls, warmed by the fire, and warmed again by the villa's hot spring.
Both villas are reserved for one group at a time, so there's no need to share space with other guests after returning. Wet robes and gear can be spread out freely, and guests can rest until evening. Miyazu Harbor sits right on the water, with pier fishing available, while MEZZO is about a 10-minute walk from central Amanohashidate, making it possible to spend the day after the experience sightseeing.

Built to extend out over Miyazu Bay, Miyazu Harbor is an oceanfront villa attached to a marina. Its 2 villas, Costa de Mare and Pescador, are each reserved for one group a day. Amenities include an infinity pool that appears to merge with Miyazu Bay, the artificial hot spring "Tennen Koseki Kuguriyu," and a balcony of about 72.8 square meters. The villa sits right on the water, with pier fishing available.
Amanohashidate MEZZO ALL SUITE VILLAS
Located about a 10-minute walk from central Amanohashidate, Amanohashidate MEZZO ALL SUITE VILLAS comprises 4 fully private villas. Every villa includes the natural hot spring "Gin Onsen," an open-air bath with a jacuzzi, a private pool with a two-tier depth of 25 cm and 110 cm, and a private garden with a fire pit. Amenities include the organic cosmetics line "Holy Botanical Series."
How to book
The plan can be booked through each villa's official reservation site. Bookings are accepted from 180 days before the stay up to 5 days before. Both the waterfall bathing and the tent sauna require advance reservation, so it's best to book as soon as the stay date is set.
The waterfall bathing experience is request-based: a booking is first accepted as a request, and confirmation follows separately. It may also be canceled on short notice due to bad weather.

Future plans
Nishigaki Co., Ltd. operates several exclusive-use villas in the Kyoto Amanohashidate area. In 2026, the company added private saunas to nine villas around Miyazu Bay, building hot-and-cold bathing circuits that guests can complete within each property. Miyazu Harbor and MEZZO ALL SUITE VILLAS do not have an in-house sauna; at these two properties, the waterfall and tent sauna outside the villa fill that role.
The next focus is building experiences outside the villa into the stay itself. The Kanabiki Falls waterfall-bathing program has been run by a local organizer, matched here with the company's accommodation — it isn't something a single property can offer on its own. Resources across the Tango area, from waterfalls and the sea to satoyama countryside and shrines and temples, each have their own local caretakers. The company plans to build more of these partnerships, extending stays beyond what a villa can offer by itself.
Another focus is smoothing out the seasonal concentration of visitors. Kanabiki Falls typically draws people seeking relief from summer heat, but this experience runs from October through April instead, giving visitors a reason to come to Tango after the swimming season ends and the autumn leaves have passed. Because winter overlaps with crab season, guests can fit the waterfall bathing, tent sauna, and a villa meal into a single overnight stay.
Tourism tends to concentrate around specific seasons and places, and Tango is no exception.
