A German Beer Hall for 140 Guests Opens in Shinjuku's Kabukicho — Hofbräu Tokyo Shinjuku Grand Opens on April 15

A new German beer hall is opening in the heart of Kabukicho. Hofbräu Tokyo Shinjuku — modeled after the historic Hofbräu beer hall in Munich — holds its grand opening on April 15, 2026 (Wednesday), with 140 seats spread across an open hall designed to evoke the atmosphere of a classic Bavarian Bierhalle.

A Munich-Inspired Interior in Kabukicho

The venue is laid out around a spacious open hall, taking cues from the legendary beer halls of Munich. The design aims to deliver the feel of drinking on-site in Bavaria.

Hofbräu Draft Beer from the Official Importer

Hofbräu is one of Munich's six state-approved breweries and is operated as a Bavarian state institution. It is also one of the central breweries at Oktoberfest — the world's largest beer festival attracting more than 6 million visitors annually — where the Hofbräu tent alone accommodates over 10,000 people.

Hofbräu Tokyo Shinjuku is operated directly by the official Japanese importer, which means the beers are served on tap under consistent quality control. The draft lineup includes four styles:

Hofbräu Weisse (HOFBRAU Weisse)
A traditional wheat beer made with generous amounts of wheat malt. It delivers a fruity banana-like aroma and a smooth, creamy head.

Hofbräu Weisse

Schwarzweiss
A dark wheat beer with notes of banana and caramel, a creamy foam, and a gentle roasted finish.

Schwarzweiss

Hofbräu Original (Lager)
A carefully crafted lager using delicate malt and quality hops, clean and balanced in flavor.

Hofbräu Original

Hofbräu Dunkel
A traditional Bavarian-style dark beer brewed since the brewery's founding, with a rich malt character.

German Cuisine Paired with Beer

The food menu centers on classic German dishes designed to complement the draft beers. Examples from the lunch and grand menu are shown below.

Lunch Menu

HB Tampopo Omurice
A soft, runny omelette placed over chicken rice seasoned with tomato and onion. Slice it open and enjoy the egg as it spreads over the rice.
(HB stands for Hofbräu, the Munich brewery.)
