Hotel Metropolitan Kamakura (operated by Japan Hotel Co., Ltd.; general manager: Hiroko Kusano) is holding an early-autumn extension of its special program "<Official Website Exclusive> An Extraordinary Experience in Kamakura Nights — Stay Plan With Special Opening and Nighttime Visit to 'Hokokuji Temple,' Exclusively for Overnight Guests," which proved highly popular this summer, selling out its 30-guest capacity at each session. The extension is limited to two dates — September 5 (Saturday) and September 19 (Saturday), 2026 — with sales starting August 26.
The plan is a collaboration with Hokokuji Temple, a Rinzai Zen temple of the Kenchoji school that holds the highest three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide. After general visiting hours end, guests step into the grounds to take in the fantastical, lit-up "Bamboo Garden" and enjoy authentic matcha and dry sweets at the "Kyukoan" tea house.
The plan is available both as an official-website-exclusive package with a 12:00 PM late checkout perk, and as an add-on option for guests staying on regular plans or booking through other travel sites.

Special Nighttime Visit to Hokokuji Temple
A fully private space for overnight guests only
Between 6:30 PM and 8:10 PM, after the temple's regular 4:00 PM closing to the general public, the grounds are reserved exclusively for up to 30 guests, who can take their time viewing the lit-up "Bamboo Garden."
Matcha and dry sweets at the nighttime Kyukoan tea house
At the "Kyukoan" tea house, guests can enjoy authentic matcha and dry sweets in the cool evening breeze while gazing at the fantastical bamboo grove. Guests choose a preferred time slot at booking, from three sittings: 6:40 PM, 7:10 PM, or 7:40 PM.
Late Checkout at 12:00 PM
Checkout is extended by an hour free of charge from the usual 11:00 AM. Guests can savor the afterglow of the nighttime visit and enjoy an unhurried stay of up to 21 hours the next morning without watching the clock.

Guests staying on regular plans (room only, with breakfast, or booked through other travel sites) on either nighttime-visit date can also add the nighttime visit as an option.

About Hokokuji Temple (Rinzai Zen, Kenchoji School)
Founded in 1334, Hokokuji Temple is a Rinzai Zen temple of the Kenchoji school. The path from its mountain gate to the main hall is lined with moss-covered stones, and the grounds make use of natural cliffs and greenery in a dry landscape garden with depth. About 2,000 moso bamboo stalks sway in the breeze across the cool grounds, where authentic matcha is also served.
