For one day only, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Hotel Oriental Express Kagoshima Tenmonkan (Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture) is holding its first-ever sweets buffet, the "Sweet Potato, Chestnut & Pumpkin Sweets Buffet," at BLUE KITCHEN, the hotel's restaurant on the 13th floor. Built around the classic autumn trio of sweet potato, chestnut, and pumpkin, the buffet brings together more than 30 items — Western and Japanese sweets, live-cooked dishes, and light bites — enjoyed in an open space overlooking Sakurajima.
Sweets Starring Sweet Potato, Chestnut, and Pumpkin
The lineup includes autumn-inspired sweets such as kabocha (pumpkin) Mont Blanc, wa-guri (Japanese chestnut) Mont Blanc, purple sweet potato cream puffs, Silk Sweet cake, and apple and cinnamon cake, alongside sweet potato and chestnut yokan and chestnut zenzai for a varied spread that spans Western and Japanese-style sweets.
Two Live-Cooked Dishes for Fresh-Made Flavor
Two dishes are prepared live at the venue: chestnut spring rolls with vanilla ice cream, and sweet potato and pumpkin tempura. Guests can watch each dish being finished in front of them and enjoy it fresh off the pan.
Kagoshima Flavors, from Chiran Tea Tiramisu to Satsuma-jiru
The buffet also features Kagoshima specialties, including a tiramisu made with Chiran tea grown in Kagoshima Prefecture, and satsuma-jiru, a local soup, served as a light bite. Crispy green peppers with meat miso and baked curry round out the savory offerings, letting guests mix sweets and light bites for a varied tasting experience. Coffee, tea, and soft drinks are also available.
