Konica Minolta Planetaria Tokyo (Yurakucho, Tokyo), an entertainment planetarium facility for adults, will resume screening its special program "Immersive Planetarium Claude Monet" from October 2, 2026 (Friday). The program first premiered in March 2026 and has drawn more than 10,000 visitors.
Claude Monet, a leading figure of Impressionism, spent his life capturing the shifting nature of light. This immersive program lets visitors experience that pursuit across the planetarium's full-dome screen. Supervised by Claude Monet researcher Hiroo Yasui, it traces what Monet loved, what he observed, and how he captured light on canvas, presenting his life's journey alongside his masterpieces with detailed narration.

A New Dimension of Immersive Experience: Seeing the World Through Monet's Eyes
The defining feature of "Immersive Planetarium Claude Monet" is its unprecedented level of immersion. The program presents Monet's beloved "Water Lilies" series, "Impression, Sunrise," and other masterpieces, extended beyond their original canvas edges using the latest AI technology.
Monet's brushstrokes and vivid colors spread across the entire dome. Scenes once confined within rectangular frames are released onto the walls and overhead, letting visitors literally step into the world Monet saw.
DOME1 at Planetaria Tokyo, the venue for the program, is a specialized planetarium where projections cover everything from the ceiling to the walls. Projection across the full 15-meter-diameter dome immerses the entire field of view in Monet's colors, creating a distinctive immersive space.
Visitors can enjoy an in-depth digital art experience that envelops them in Monet's world.
Photogenic Limited-Time Menu
The adjacent cafe, Cafe Planetaria, will offer a limited-time menu inspired by Monet's masterpieces for the duration of the screening.
Menu items purchased at Cafe Planetaria can be brought into DOME1, where the program screens, letting visitors enjoy the Monet-inspired menu while immersed in the artist's world.
Photography is also permitted before the main screening begins, so visitors can photograph their photogenic cafe items against the dome's projected imagery.
Water Lily - ¥830 (tax included)
A non-alcoholic drink inspired by "Water Lilies," featuring a color that shifts from blue to purple when mixed. Garnished with edible flowers evoking lotus blossoms and accented with colorful tapioca and jelly for a refreshing taste.
Monet's Pancake - ¥780 (tax included)
A special pancake inspired by the masterpiece "Woman with a Parasol," designed to be as delightful to look at as it is to eat. The batter is coated in butterfly pea chocolate and topped with an edible rendition of a Monet painting, layered with mixed berries and whipped cream for a satisfying finish.

About the Supervisor
Hiroo Yasui
Born in 1969. After serving as curator at the Hiroshima Museum of Art Foundation and specialist curator at the Iwate Museum of Art, he currently serves as senior curator at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum. His specialty is French modern art. Major exhibitions he has supervised include "Monet - The World of Water Lilies" (co-supervision, 2001), "Chardin - Master of Silence" (2012), "Redon - Secret Garden" (2018), "All Masters! - The Phillips Collection" (2018), and "1894 Visions: Redon and Toulouse-Lautrec" (2020), among many others. He received the Academic Award at the 13th Foundation for the Promotion of Western Art Award for "Redon - Secret Garden."
His major publications include "More About Monet - Life and Works" and "Monet Works Collection" (Tokyo Bijutsu), "Renoir's Dogs and Cats - Animals of Impressionism" (Kodansha), and "Illustrated: The World of Monet's 'Water Lilies'" (Sogensha), as well as the co-authored works "Introduction to Monet: Six Stories Unraveling 'Water Lilies'" (Chichu Art Museum) and "Chichu Art Museum" (Fukutake Foundation).
