Izu-Produced Mandarin and Plum Drinking Jellies Launch in February 2026

In February 2026, two new fruit jellies made with Izu-grown produce launched in the region. Atatamaaima Co., Ltd., a food manufacturer based in Atami, Shizuoka, specializing in local agricultural processing products, has released "Mandarin Jelly (Made with Izu Mandarin)" and "Ripe Plum Jelly (Made with Izu Plum)." Both products are gelatin-free drinking jellies packaged in convenient pouch format.

Jellies That Showcase Izu-Grown Fruit

The Izu region of Shizuoka Prefecture is blessed with a warm climate and is known for producing citrus fruits and other high-quality crops. Local farmers dedicate considerable effort to cultivating premium fruit.

Atatamaaima focuses on creating processed foods that highlight the appeal of regional crops, helping more people discover the charm of local agriculture and the land itself.

These new jellies use Izu-grown plums and mandarin oranges, allowing consumers to enjoy the natural deliciousness of the fruit.

A Year-Long Recipe Development Using Agar and Konjac Powder

The jellies contain no artificial flavoring, coloring, or gelling agents. Instead, they're made with agar and konjac powder. While most commercial jellies use gelling agents for texture, Atatamaaima challenged themselves to develop recipes using only agar and konjac powder to preserve the natural aroma and freshness of the fruit.

However, the high acidity of citrus fruits and plums made it difficult for the agar to set properly. After numerous trials—adjusting the temperature when combining separately simmered fruit juice with agar and konjac, and fine-tuning sterilization conditions—the team spent approximately one year perfecting the recipe.

All ingredients are domestically sourced, including Izu-grown fruit and beet granulated sugar from Hokkaido. The jellies are safe for everyone from young children to seniors, suitable as everyday snacks or treats on the go.

About the Izu Mandarin Jelly

This product uses processing-grade Izu mandarin oranges—fruit that tastes excellent but doesn't meet visual standards for fresh market sales and has been underutilized until now.

Izu-produced mandarin oranges

The jelly combines mandarin juice with beet granulated sugar from Hokkaido, agar, and konjac powder, maximizing the fruit's natural flavor.

The result is a jelly with the mandarin's natural aroma and gentle sweetness.

About the Izu Ripe Plum Jelly

Tree-ripened plums turn yellow or reddish and develop a rich fragrance reminiscent of peaches or plums, along with the fruity sweetness characteristic of fully ripe fruit. While too soft and perishable for fresh distribution, they're ideal for processing, where their appeal truly shines.

Tree-ripened plums from Izu

The jelly is made from Izu-grown tree-ripened plums processed into a paste and combined with beet granulated sugar from Hokkaido, agar, and konjac powder. The result is a jelly with vibrant fruit sweetness and aroma.

This gentle, dessert-like flavor challenges common perceptions of plum.
