Sanyoso in Izu-Nagaoka Onsen (Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture) will offer a winter-only kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese cuisine) meal called "Moments Wrapped in the Murmur of the Stream – Winter Kotatsu Kaiseki on the Moon-Viewing Platform" (せせらぎに包まれるひととき。～月見台で愉しむ冬のこたつ懐石～) from January 12 (Tuesday) to February 28 (Sunday), 2027.
A kotatsu (heated table) seating area is set up on the moon-viewing platform (tsukimidai) for the winter, so guests can enjoy kaiseki while taking in the sound of the stream, the clear winter air, and the surrounding nature. The plan is limited to one party of two per day. In addition to a plan for overnight guests, a day-trip plan is available. Guests can enjoy kaiseki made with seasonal ingredients while their feet stay warm under the kotatsu.
The event uses the moon-viewing platform as a special dining space, with the aim of creating a new kind of stay in which guests experience nature with all five senses. Listening to the flowing water and feeling the crisp air while dining is meant to bring the changing seasons and the richness of nature closer. The event offers a relaxed winter dining experience where nature and food come together at Sanyoso.

About the Moon-Viewing Platform
A tsukimidai is a space built for viewing the moon, part of Japan's long-standing tradition of moon viewing. Many are built where they overlook a garden or pond, and they have long been valued as a distinctly Japanese way to spend quiet time looking at the moon together with nature. Sanyoso had a moon-viewing platform when its new building opened, but it was lost over the years. In May 2026, it was restored based on the design and philosophy from the inn's founding. The restoration brings back the atmosphere of the past and gives guests a space where they can once again enjoy the tranquil time created by the moon and the garden.
