Calbee's Jagarico brand — known for its signature crispy-then-crunchy texture, achieved through a unique manufacturing process — is combining two of its classic, fan-favorite flavors, tarako butter and cheese, into a new variety called Jagarico Tarakoi Cheese Flavor (じゃがりこ たらこぃチーズ味). It launches in limited quantities at Lawson stores nationwide on September 15, 2026 (Tuesday).
Background
Jagarico was born in 1995 under the concept of "a snack that high school girls could carry in their bags," and has remained a beloved, long-selling snack for more than 30 years thanks to its crispy-then-crunchy texture.
The first installment in Jagarico's "combination" flavor series, Jagarico Batachi Flavor (じゃがりこ バタチ～味), launched in February 2024 to strong results and drew many requests from customers, including comments such as "the combination of popular flavors can't go wrong!" and "I'd love to try a tarako-and-cheese combination too" (excerpted from customer feedback). In response to these voices, Jagarico is now releasing the second installment in the series to further expand the concept.
Jagarico Tarakoi Cheese Flavor is built around the concept "tarako butter and cheese, combined!?," aimed at customers — particularly women in their teens and twenties — who love the tastes of tarako butter and cheese, letting them enjoy both classic flavors at once.
Product Features
From the first bite, a bold tarako flavor fills your mouth, followed by a gradually deepening cheese richness with every chew, leaving an addictive aftertaste. The pink-colored sticks also use grainy tarako powder.
The packaging uses pink and yellow, colors that evoke tarako and cheese. To express the concept of "two flavors becoming one!?," two different package designs were created. When placed side by side, they reveal an image of two giraffes talking to each other through a string telephone — a playful "two-in-one" design.
