Calbee is launching a new limited-edition Jagarico variety — "Jagarico Utttttsume Flavor" — exclusively at Ministop convenience stores nationwide starting June 15, 2026. The product marks the first time the Jagarico brand has used a sour coating technique, delivering a strong hit of ume (plum) sourness and shiso aroma from the very first bite.
Background
Jagarico was born in 1995 under the concept of "a snack that high school girls could carry in their bags," featuring a signature crispy-then-crunchy texture. The brand recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.
This new variety applies the same "coating method" used in the previously popular "Jagarico Karai Yatsu" (spicy flavor), which seasons the surface of the sticks. It is the first time this technique has been applied to create a sour-coated cup product. The launch is timed to coincide with June — the month when interest in ume peaks in Japan — to offer plum fans a fresh and surprising flavor experience.
Product Features
Building on the well-received "Jagarico Ume Flavor," the taste has been refined to capture the flavor of authentic pickled plums (umeboshi). The shiso aroma comes through even before you take a bite, and a rich ume flavor gradually seeps out with every chew.
The packaging is designed so that the product name itself visually conveys the sourness at a glance. Rather than a typical dried umeboshi, the label features an image of fresh, juicy pickled plum (ume-zuke) to express a refreshing, tangy sourness.
