Hello! I'm Chida from the Holiday Travel editorial team! ✨
When you're choosing souvenirs during your travels, what kind of things do you buy? I often buy local snacks as souvenirs when traveling, and I frequently receive them from friends too! Regional limited snacks have that special feeling unique to the place, which makes them so delightful!
Today, I'd like to introduce "Karl Usu-aji" among such local specialty snacks ❤️
What is Karl?
Karl isn't strictly a regional specialty, but it's a rare snack sold exclusively in Western Japan! While you could easily find Karl at supermarkets nationwide when I was little, now it's become a special treat that you can only get in Kansai and Western Japan.
There are two varieties: cheese flavor and usu-aji, with cheese flavor being the more mainstream option!
The usu-aji I tried this time features a gentle dashi flavor as its name suggests! It has a light, crispy texture while you can still clearly taste Karl's distinctive savory corn flavor 😋 Personally, I prefer the rich cheese flavor for that true Karl experience, but this usu-aji has its own refined deliciousness
The size is also quite large, so the moment you hold it in your hand, your excitement goes up (๑╹ω╹๑ )
When you travel to Western Japan or Kansai, please look for Karl at local supermarkets and convenience stores! For those living in the Kanto region, this is a precious snack that's hard to come by. If you bring it back as a souvenir, it's sure to be appreciated!
I'll continue introducing more recommended souvenirs and local snacks! Stay tuned!
