Kimono Tea Ceremony MAIKOYA Launches Private Proposal Plan at Kyoto's Historic Karasuma-Shijo Branch

A new plan designed for once-in-a-lifetime moments is coming to Kimono Tea Ceremony MAIKOYA's Karasuma-Shijo branch in Kyoto. Starting June 1, 2026, the venue will offer a "Private Proposal Plan" that brings together kimono dressing, an authentic tea ceremony in a private tearoom, professional photography, and carefully selected celebration gifts—all within the serene setting of a historic Kyoto machiya registered as a tangible cultural property.

Plan Highlights

Proposal Support by the Host

The kimono dressing rooms are separated by gender, giving each guest a relaxed preparation experience. While getting dressed, the host will speak with the couple privately to understand the proposal scenario and coordinate the day's flow accordingly.

Kimono Dressing

Guests choose from a wide selection of kimono in various colors and patterns, with experienced staff on hand to help with the fitting. A hair set is also included for female guests.

A range of kimono and accessories available in the dressing room

Private Tea Ceremony

The couple is given exclusive use of one tearoom within the registered tangible cultural property for an authentic tea ceremony. The quiet, traditional atmosphere of the space provides a natural lead-in to the proposal moment.

Professional Photography

A professional photographer with experience in kimono and anniversary shoots will document the experience. Fifty edited photos will be delivered digitally within one week.

Celebration Gifts

The plan includes a set of gifts inspired by Japanese Shinto wedding traditions and traditional craftsmanship:

  • Pair of fans (a symbol of ever-expanding happiness)
  • Pair of Mt. Fuji-shaped sake cups in Mino ware, with cherry blossom patterns inside
  • Nishijin "tsumami zaiku" hair accessories (handmade from Nishijin fabric)
  • Photo album with two printed photos
