Cross Hotel Kyoto Hosts Ando Co., Ltd. "Shibori Bag" Pop-Up for Second Year Running

Cross Hotel Kyoto is hosting a pop-up store for Ando Co., Ltd.'s Shibori Bags from March 25 to May 6, 2026. Following the warm reception last year, this marks the second time the pop-up has taken place at the hotel.

The Shibori Bags are created by Ando Co., Ltd., a Kyoto-based producer of traditional woven accessories that has been in business for 103 years since its founding in 1923. The bags make use of the distinctive three-dimensional texture of shibori (tie-dye) to achieve a stylish look, and have gained a following not only in Japan but also at select shops overseas. The elasticity of the shibori technique means the bags can be folded compactly when not in use, making them suitable for everyday use and travel alike.

ANDO POP UP STORE

For this second pop-up at Cross Hotel Kyoto, the lineup centers on fabrics with bold visual impact — including coin-shaped and spike textures — alongside new spring pastel color additions. A total of 25 variations across 7 types will be on offer.

New Workshop Courses Added to Stay Plan

The "CROSS STAY – FEEL LOCAL Shibori-Dyeing Workshop Stay Plan" — where guests can see, touch, and create traditional local crafts — is adding two new courses starting April 1, 2026: an Azuma Bag course and an Azuma Shoulder Bag course. The Azuma bag features different dye intensities on its two sides due to the contrast between the outer and inner fabrics, making it usable in reverse.
