Tokyo Wagashi Shop Kitaya Launches New "Tokyo Nama Sablé," a Soft Twist on a Classic Baked Treat

Kitaya, a wagashi shop that has been part of the Senju neighborhood in Adachi ward, Tokyo since 1955, has introduced a new baked confection called "Tokyo Nama Sablé" (東京生さぶれ). The new product draws on the shop's long tradition of Japanese sweets making to deliver what the shop describes as "a gentle, comforting sweetness."

Unlike a conventional sablé with its crispy, crunchy texture, Tokyo Nama Sablé features a moist and soft mouthfeel. The delicate, melt-in-the-mouth quality is paired with a mild sweetness that blends a sense of nostalgia with something refreshingly new. Two flavors are available: a rich Chocolate and a smooth White Chocolate, offering an appeal that spans generations.

Each piece is individually wrapped, making it easy to share with colleagues or classmates. The sablés have a long shelf life and are priced at 135 yen per piece (tax included), making them accessible for everyday enjoyment. Box sets are available at a better value than individual purchases, making them a practical choice whether you're buying for yourself or looking for something to give as a gift or souvenir.

Package colors: light blue for white chocolate, pink for chocolate

The packaging uses light blue for the White Chocolate flavor and pink for the Chocolate flavor. The sablés are designed to pair well not only with Japanese green tea but also with coffee and black tea, making them a versatile treat for everyday moments throughout the day.

12-piece assortment box (1,600 yen, tax included) with 6 chocolate and 6 white chocolate pieces

The 12-piece assortment box, containing 6 chocolate and 6 white chocolate pieces, is priced at 1,600 yen (tax included), offering a balanced selection for sharing or gifting.
