First-Ever Kobe Portopia Hotel × átoa Collaboration Afternoon Tea Set

The Tea Lounge Belcour at Kobe Portopia Hotel will offer a limited-time collaboration afternoon tea set with the theater-style aquarium átoa, running from April 27 (Mon) to June 28 (Sun), 2026. This is the first collaboration between the two establishments.

The Kobe Portopia Hotel marked its 45th anniversary on March 9, 2026, while átoa will celebrate its 5th anniversary on October 29 of the same year. To honor both milestones, this collaboration brings the fantastical world of átoa to life through a refreshing lineup of early-summer sweets and savories inspired by light and the shimmer of water.

The hotel's pastry chefs visited átoa in person last autumn, drawing inspiration from the iconic spherical water tank "AQUA TERRA" — the largest of its kind in Japan — and the distinct atmosphere of each floor throughout the aquarium. After many rounds of recipe testing with feedback from the átoa team, eight sweets were created for this set.

The top tier of the tea stand features a polka-dot coffee jelly inspired by the spotted stingray found at átoa's 3F "FOYER – Room of Inquiry," alongside a cherry cake drawing from the scenic Japanese atmosphere of "MIYABI – Room of Harmony and Light" on the same floor.

The middle tier offers a mousse evoking the blue-lit ocean depths of átoa's 2F "MARINE NOTE – Pulse of Life," paired with a butter sandwich cookie representing the fairy-tale forest of "ELEMENTS – Forest of Spirits."

The bottom tier includes a chocolate brulee tart shaped like the Asian small-clawed otters of átoa's 4F "SKYSHORE – Garden of the Sky," and a black sesame scone adorned with chocolate depicting Humboldt penguins.

The standout item is the signature "Planetary Cake – PLANETS," a mousse cake capturing the look of the iconic "AQUA TERRA" spherical water tank, complete with a vivid blue glaze reminiscent of the tank's mist-and-laser light display. A crunchy croustillant provides textural contrast, with layers of blood orange mousse and a butterfly pea and citrus jelly beneath.

Four savories have also been crafted by the hotel's chefs, reflecting the world of átoa where art and aquatic life coexist. These include an aquarium salad inspired by colorful sea creatures and a smoked salmon sandwich garnished with a beet-flavored langues de chat.
