Kurumido, a New Walnut Sweets Shop on Zenkoji's Nakamise-dori, Previews Its Confections Including a Walnut-Shaped Sablé Filled with Rich, Smooth Caramel Cream

A new souvenir sweets brand called Kurumido is opening on Zenkoji's Nakamise-dori in Nagano on October 8, 2026 (Thursday). Ahead of the opening, here is a preview of some of the products that will be sold there.

Kurumicchel

Kurumicchel is Kurumido's signature confection. A press-sandwich machine made in Italy is used to bake a sablé shaped just like a real walnut, and the sablé is generously filled with a caramel cream made with fragrant walnuts. The round, endearing shape makes it hard to resist picking one up. A crisp, fragrant sablé, a rich and smooth caramel cream that melts in the mouth, and the texture and deep flavor of the walnuts come together, with each bite leaving a lingering aftertaste. It's a new confection that embodies Kurumido's walnut-centered concept.

Prices (tax included): single piece ¥259 / bag of 2 ¥540 / box of 4 ¥1,080 / box of 6 ¥1,728

Risu no Wasuremono Monaka Cookie

Risu no Wasuremono Monaka Cookie

This is an adorable baked confection shaped like a squirrel holding a walnut. Cookie dough made with roasted walnuts and chocolate chips is piped into an original squirrel-shaped monaka wafer made especially for Kurumido, then baked. It offers the enjoyable contrast of a crisp monaka wafer and a fragrant cookie texture, with a flavor that appeals to children and adults alike.

Prices: single piece ¥172 / bag of 3 ¥594 / box of 6 ¥1,188 / box of 10 ¥1,836

Chewy Walnut and Apple Dorayaki

A filling of slowly simmered Shinshu apples is combined with plenty of walnuts and wrapped in soft, chewy dorayaki batter. The texture and fragrance of the walnuts combine with the gentle sweetness and mild tartness of the apples to fill the mouth. It's a dorayaki that brings together the blessings of Shinshu in one confection, with a nostalgic flavor that makes you want to come back for more.

What's introduced here is only a small part of Kurumido's full lineup. Walnuts pair well with a wide range of ingredients, from apples to sesame, and the shop has taken on the challenge of creating confections that combine them with the flavors of Shinshu. Sweets made with Zenkoji Monzen miso, one of Shinshu's representative flavors, are also available. Inside the roughly 20-tsubo shop, around 40 different products will be packed onto the shelves. The staff are looking forward to sharing flavors of walnuts that can only be found here, and invite everyone to look forward to Kurumido's opening.
