Kyoto's 9 Universities Unite for Joint Exhibition "Okurimono" Opening January 23

The Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto) will host a joint exhibition from January 23 to March 1, 2026, in collaboration with 9 university museums in Kyoto, titled Kyoto University Museum Special 6: "Okurimono" (Gifts).

As a "university city" with over 30 universities, Kyoto has accumulated valuable collections through research and education activities at each institution. This sixth edition brings together artifacts selected by 9 university museums under the theme of "okurimono" (gifts), presenting them from multiple perspectives including space, history, land, and nature.

Three Highlights of the Exhibition

1. Nine Museums from Different Specializations Come Together

This is a rare opportunity for nine museums with distinct specializations to collaborate under one theme, including art, history, astronomy, and comprehensive collections.

2. Diverse Forms of "Gifts"

The exhibition goes beyond physical gifts exchanged between people, encompassing gifts from space, gifts from the past, gifts from the land (such as archaeological finds), works created using materials from nature (gifts from nature), and donations from artists to universities.

3. Free Admission Exhibition in the Okazaki Area

Located in the Okazaki area alongside Heian Shrine and art museums, the venue is on the B1 floor of Miyako Messe. Visitors can view precious academic materials and artworks free of charge.
