The Galaxy Express 999 50th Anniversary Project - Leiji Matsumoto Exhibition - Journey of Creation opens on September 19 (Saturday), 2026, at Kadokawa Culture Museum in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, inside Tokorozawa Sakura Town.

Ahead of the opening, new information has been revealed all at once, including a teaser visual for a new film making its first public appearance at this venue, three admission gift designs, original new merchandise, and collaboration drinks available only at Kadokawa Culture Museum.

New Movie Visual Added at This Venue

At the Kadokawa Culture Museum venue, in addition to the exhibition's previous touring content, a teaser visual for the highly anticipated new theatrical animation film The Galaxy Express 999 is being shown to the public for the first time. The display traces more than 70 years of Leiji Matsumoto's creative history and hints at a new journey ahead, making it a notable exhibit for fans.

Alongside the exhibits looking back on the Journey of Creation so far, visitors can see this new page in The Galaxy Express 999's history early at the venue.

Venue-Limited Admission Gift Designs Revealed

To mark the exhibition, visitors who enter will receive one of three designs of an exclusive admission gift (a bookmark), available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Each design features delicate, beautiful artwork and memorable scenes drawn by Leiji Matsumoto, and is available only at this venue.

This drink is inspired by red wine enjoyed in the No. 999 dining car against a backdrop of a vast galaxy, made with red grape juice topped with silver sugar. (Non-alcoholic drink)

Phantom of Youth - Journey with Maetel -: 1,000 yen (tax included)

This drink is inspired by Maetel, who shared a long journey, combining passion fruit cider with black lemon jelly and a refreshing lemon tartness reminiscent of boyhood days. (Non-alcoholic drink)

Novelty gift

Guests who order a collaboration drink will receive an original coaster as a gift, one per drink ordered. (While supplies last)

Ticket purchase notes

  • Each ticket is valid for one single admission per person during the exhibition period. Re-entry to the 3rd floor Leiji Matsumoto Exhibition exhibition room is not permitted.
  • Tickets are sold for a specified date.
  • A ticket is required starting from elementary school age.
  • Visitors of elementary school age or younger must be accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or older, and each guardian may accompany up to two children.
  • Visitors may be asked to show a student ID at the entrance.
  • Discounts for visitors with disabilities apply only to same-day tickets. Presenting a disability certificate (physical disability certificate, rehabilitation certificate, or mental health and welfare certificate) at the 2nd floor general information/ticket counter entitles the visitor and one caregiver to half-price admission.
  • Tickets cannot be canceled, exchanged for a different type, changed to a different date, refunded, or reissued after purchase.
  • Visitors cannot enter without their ticket, so be sure to bring it when visiting.
