Lotte City Hotel Kinshicho (Sumida City, Tokyo) is holding its original summer festival "Sumida Ennichi — Connecting Through Local Craftsmanship, Bonds of Travel" to coincide with the 49th Sumida River Fireworks Festival on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
During the hours leading up to the fireworks, the event offers hands-on workshops that bring guests closer to the charm of "Monozukuri Town Sumida." Mini folding-screen making, origami crane folding, and a glass pen experience let visitors get a feel for the area's traditions and artisan culture. The "Sumida Retro Café Corner" also serves Coffee Float and Cream Soda, drinks tied to the old-town's retro café culture, along with "fruit ice" made by shaving frozen strawberries — bringing a lively summer touch to the event.
The festival is open only to hotel guests. It is designed for domestic travelers looking to enjoy a Japanese summer, as well as the growing number of inbound visitors, offering a traditional Japanese summer tradition in a prime location with attentive hospitality. Alongside a chance to enjoy the local culture of Tokyo's old downtown, the hotel aims to share the appeal of Sumida City with guests and build new connections with the local community.
Workshops Showcasing the Craftsmanship of "Monozukuri Town Sumida"
Sumida City runs the "Sumida Modern" program, which promotes the area's identity as "Monozukuri Town Sumida" — a tradition of craftsmanship dating back to the Edo period. The Sumida Ennichi festival features a dedicated corner developed together with the Sumida Modern program and its certified businesses, letting guests engage with local craftsmanship and tradition through workshops and hands-on experiences.

Mini Folding-Screen Making (in Collaboration with Kataoka Byobu-ten)
Kataoka Byobu-ten, founded in Sumida City and carrying on its craft as Tokyo's only specialty folding-screen shop, is collaborating on a mini folding-screen making experience. Guests can paint their own designs or add paper cutouts to a small tabletop-sized folding screen, creating a one-of-a-kind piece to take home.

Smart Ball Games Featuring Precision Metalwork (in Collaboration with Ishii Seiko)
Ishii Seiko is a Sumida City company known for its precision metalworking. Its craftsmen have machined a custom smart ball game, letting guests experience the ward's high level of technical skill through play. Guests can compete for points while getting a hands-on feel for the appeal of local craftsmanship.

A Delicate Writing Experience with Glass Pens (in Collaboration with Takeuchi Seisakusho)
Takeuchi Seisakusho, a Sumida City manufacturer of heat-resistant glass for scientific use, handcrafts each piece individually for its glass pen brand "clarto." At Sumida Ennichi, guests can try the pens' delicate, smooth writing feel for themselves — a chance to put words to memories of the trip and the summer festival while enjoying the beauty of a glass pen.

Origami Crane Folding with "ORIGAMI FOR CRANE" (in Collaboration with NACAMURA)
NACAMURA, a bookbinding company with roots in origami paper-cutting techniques, has created the origami paper brand "ORIGAMI FOR CRANE," which will be used in an origami crane-folding experience at the festival. Directed by artist Riko Takahashi, the paper features striking stripe and dot patterns. Guests can enjoy folding each crane carefully by hand while getting a feel for Japanese traditional culture.

Kogane-yu Craft Beer with a Special Hotel Collaboration Label (in Collaboration with Kogane-yu)
Kogane-yu, a popular public bathhouse in Sumida City, brews "BATHE YOTSUME BREWERY" craft beer, which will be served at Sumida Ennichi in a limited-quantity "Lotte City Hotel Kinshicho collaboration label." It's a drink to enjoy while taking in the festival, or while looking up at the fireworks.
A Taste of Summer with Retro Festival Food and the Sumida Retro Café Corner
Sumida Ennichi features a nostalgic food stall corner to set the mood for a summer festival. Alongside classic festival staples like cotton candy, popcorn, and super ball scooping, guests can try "Koala's March-yaki" — crispy on the outside and fluffy inside — with a lineup that both children and adults can enjoy.

At the shaved-ice bar, guests can enjoy "fruit ice," a dessert made by shaving frozen strawberries — a refreshing treat that highlights the sweetness and tartness of the fruit for a cool summer moment. The "Sumida Retro Café Corner," reflecting the old-town's rich retro café culture, also serves Coffee Float and Cream Soda.

The festival takes place on the outdoor terrace of the 4th-floor restaurant "Charlotte," where guests can relax and enjoy a pleasant breeze. It's a chance to savor summer flavors before the fireworks begin. Guests who take part in the festival receive a "Sumida Ennichi Ticket," which can be exchanged for one drink of their choice — fruit ice, a regular drink, or one of the four floats (additional drinks are available for a fee).
