Louis Poulsen Japan is marking 100 years since Poul Henningsen developed his groundbreaking System PH lighting system in 1926. The brand introduced the first chapter of its PH Centenary Collection this past April, and now follows it with a second release this autumn: the PH 3/3 Pendant Centenary Edition and the PH 2/2 Wall Centenary Edition.
Pendant and Wall Lamps That Carry Forward the Original System PH
Both new lamps are built on the three-shade System PH that Poul Henningsen devised in 1926. The pendant model uses a suspension structure reminiscent of the original 1926 specification, while the decorative height-adjustment thumbscrew and the wall lamp's gracefully curved arm recall the "PH Luna," produced in the 1930s.
Both models come in an aged brass finish that evokes the patina of well-worn brass over the years. An amber top shade is paired with milky-white glass for the middle and bottom shades, spreading warm, soft light upward while reflecting neutral-toned light downward for a comfortable lighting environment. It's a special, vintage-flavored fixture where classic design meets rich materiality.

100 Years of System PH
The PH Centenary Collection was created to mark 100 years since Poul Henningsen (1894–1967), an architect and cultural critic, devised System PH in 1926.
Designed on mathematical principles, the three-shade system was developed to achieve glare-free lighting that's gentle on the human eye. That philosophy remains undimmed today, carried on as the foundation of Louis Poulsen's approach to lighting.

About Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen (1894–1967) was a Danish architect and cultural critic who left a major mark on Danish society and design. Known as "the designer of light," his work forms a key part of the heritage behind Louis Poulsen's excellence in lighting.
Henningsen began his career in functionalist architecture before turning increasingly to the study of light, becoming one of the field's most widely recognized figures. He was also active as a journalist and writer, influencing many fields beyond design. His collaboration with Louis Poulsen, which began in 1924, continued throughout his life. His pioneering research into the relationships between light, shadow, glare, color rendering, and human comfort remains the foundation of Louis Poulsen's lighting philosophy today.
