To mark the 20th anniversary of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO in Kyobashi, Tokyo will host "Origins of Mamoru Hosoda" — the largest-ever creative exhibition dedicated to animation film director Mamoru Hosoda — this summer.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was adapted from Yasutaka Tsutsui's original work into a coming-of-age story about a contemporary girl's growth, brought to life through energetic animation. Opening at just six theaters in July 2006, word of mouth drove a 40-week run that expanded to over 100 screens across Japan. The film received the Special Distinction Prize in the feature film category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and earned numerous international awards, introducing Mamoru Hosoda to audiences worldwide.
"Origins of Mamoru Hosoda" will present the largest-ever collection of production materials — including storyboards, layouts, original drawings, and art boards — centered on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children, films that continue to win new fans. The exhibition offers a chance to rediscover these foundational works from new perspectives and relive the emotion of those summers.
Mamoru Hosoda has consistently created highly entertaining work by boldly incorporating influences from animation, film, and painting into his visual storytelling. The exhibition also explores the themes and artistic vision running throughout his career, extending to the challenges of Scarlet.
Ticket information and other details will be announced on the official website.
