Mishima Skywalk's "Sora Momiji" Autumn Leaves Expected to Peak in Mid-November 2026, With New Viewpoints

Mishima Skywalk, a 400-meter suspension bridge in Mishima, Shizuoka, with views of Mount Fuji, is expected to reach peak autumn color around mid-November again this year. From the bridge, visitors can take in a view of colored mountains with the open sky beyond them, known as "Sora Momiji" (空紅葉). This year, the viewpoints added for the 10th anniversary offer more ways to enjoy the autumn scenery.

Autumn Leaves With the Sky Beyond

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, September this year on the Pacific side of eastern Japan recorded the highest monthly precipitation and the shortest monthly sunshine hours since records began in 1946, making it a month of record-breaking rain and lack of sunshine. It has also been pointed out that when sunshine is lacking, people spend less time in the sun, and more people experience mental health problems.

On sunny days at Mishima Skywalk, visitors can enjoy open 360-degree views from the 400-meter bridge in the autumn sunshine. From around mid-November in a typical year, this scenery turns autumn colors. "Sora Momiji," in which the sky stretches out beyond the autumn leaves, is a highlight of the season. The term was coined by Mishima Skywalk.

The spot also makes a good stop on an autumn drive around Hakone, Izu, and Atami.

New Viewpoints for the 10th Anniversary

"SKY CROSS" and the "Kaze to Sora no Deck" (風と空のデッキ), new viewpoints opened to mark the 10th anniversary, welcome their first autumn this year. Together with a walk across the suspension bridge, they let visitors enjoy Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the autumn mountains from several angles.

  • SKY CROSS: An X-shaped deck that juts out into the air, giving the feeling of stepping into the sky. Visitors can look out over Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the suspension bridge.
  • Kaze to Sora no Deck (風と空のデッキ): Located beyond the suspension bridge, it offers a 360-degree panorama, and visitors can feel the wind rising from beneath their feet as they take in the surroundings.

SKY DOG RUN

"SKY DOG RUN," a natural-grass dog run, has also opened on a high spot with a good view. It has two areas, one for small and medium-sized dogs and one for large dogs, giving visitors who bring their dogs more ways to spend time at Mishima Skywalk. It is also suggested as a spot for an autumn outing with a pet.

Mikan Juice From Nishiura, Numazu

Beyond the suspension bridge, the mikan juice specialty shop 甘柑みかん serves juice made with fully ripened mikan from Nishiura in Numazu, Shizuoka. In Nishiura, harvesting and shipping proceed variety by variety from September, so this is the peak season for mikan. Visitors can enjoy local flavors along with their autumn leaf walk.
