Mishima Skywalk's Annual Hydrangea Festival Returns in 2026 with 215 Varieties and 13,000+ Plants

Mishima Skywalk, a 400-meter suspension bridge overlooking Mount Fuji in Mishima City, Shizuoka, hosts its annual Hydrangea Festival (あじさい祭) from June 6 (Saturday) to July 5 (Sunday), 2026. The festival has been a fixture at the venue since 2018, and this year features 215 varieties and more than 13,000 hydrangea plants — including 10 newly added varieties — blooming across a 7,000 m² forest in the bridge's North Area, "Kicoro no Mori."

A Forest of 215 Hydrangea Varieties

Newly added 10 varieties

The festival's highlight is the expansive hydrangea forest. Existing plant stock has been carefully tended, and 10 new varieties have been added for 2026, bringing the total to 215 varieties. Among them are three original varieties exclusive to the venue:

  • Skywalk: White sepals with a soft tint of light blue, named through a public vote by visitors in 2018.
  • Haou: A softly shaped variety in pale blue, named by a weather forecaster.
  • Natsuzora: A delicate lavender variety with a charming, light impression.

The newly added varieties are still small in number, so spotting them during a walk through the forest is a bit of a lucky find. The forest paths accommodate leashed dogs and include wooden benches and tables for resting.

Hydrangea Naming Contest

Naming contest

As part of the venue's 10th-anniversary commemorations (which occurred in December 2025), a new original hydrangea variety has been planted in the forest. Since the plant is still small, it may not bloom this season, but visitors can participate in a public naming contest — "You Name It — Hydrangea Grand Prix."

  • Submission period: June 6 (Sat) to July 5 (Sun), 2026
  • How to enter: Via a ballot box in Kicoro no Mori; or by posting on Instagram or X alongside a photo of the new variety; or via an online submission form.
  • Results announced: Autumn 2026 (via the official website and SNS)
  • Winner's prize: Special invitation tickets to the 2027 Hydrangea Festival (valid June 5–July 4, 2027, for 2 people)
