Two new attractions are set to open at the summit of the Mt. Fuji Panorama Ropeway (~Kawaguchiko~ 富士山パノラマロープウェイ), operated by 富士山麓電気鉄道株式会社 (a Fujikyu Group company), on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Located at approximately 1,090 meters above sea level, the new "FUJI FORTUNE TERRACE" (ご利益広場) and "Scenic View Staircase" (絶景展望階段) will give visitors a combination of breathtaking Mt. Fuji views and unique good-luck experiences.
FUJI FORTUNE TERRACE (ご利益広場)
The FUJI FORTUNE TERRACE is a fortune-filled area where visitors can enjoy both spectacular views of Mt. Fuji on clear days and a variety of one-of-a-kind lucky experiences regardless of the weather. The summit of 天上山 (Tenjouzan), connected by the ropeway, is known as the setting of Osamu Dazai's classic tale "Kachikachi Yama," and the facility has long welcomed visitors with charming tanuki (raccoon dog) and rabbit characters. The new FUJI FORTUNE TERRACE carries on that theme, bringing together several interactive good-luck experiences.

Rabbit Shrine (うさぎ神社)
A small shrine enshrining a rabbit deity, dedicated to the safety and sure-footedness of tourists and hikers. Two "guardian rabbits" (狛うさぎ) flank the shrine: patting the head of the dreaming "夢見兎" is said to grant wisdom, while stroking the hind legs of the standing "富士見兎" is said to bestow strong legs for climbing.

Kawarake Throwing (かわらけ投げ)
A traditional bad-luck-purging experience where visitors throw unglazed clay saucers toward Mt. Fuji. Hitting the target is said to make wishes come true. (Fee: ¥100 for 2 saucers)
Ema and Omamori Vending Machines (絵馬・お守り自販機)
A new vending machine offers wooden ema (votive plaques) in maple leaf and hydrangea shapes made from thinned timber, as well as colorful rabbit-shaped omamori (amulets) popular as souvenirs. (Ema: ¥500 / Omamori: ¥700)
Kachikachi Tairyou Mikuji (カチカチ大漁みくじ)
Fortune-telling ceramic figures of a rabbit and tanuki themed on "Kachikachi Yama." Visitors use a fishing rod to "catch" their fortune from a boat-shaped container resembling a muddy boat from the story — a playful new way to find out your luck. (Fee: ¥600)

Mt. Fuji Fortune Stamp Rally (富士山ご利益めぐり)
A stamp rally featuring four stamp stations set up around the facility. Layering the stamps gradually reveals an image of Mt. Fuji as seen from the observatory, with seasonal scenery across the four seasons. The completed sheet doubles as a postcard (with a stamp included), ready to mail from the mountain. (Fee: ¥500)

Scenic View Staircase (絶景展望階段)
A new 35-step staircase with a 7-meter elevation change serves as the promenade leading to the FUJI FORTUNE TERRACE. Framed by a large red torii gate and stone lanterns, the path also functions as the approach to the Rabbit Shrine, enshrining the sister goddesses 磐長姫命 (Iwanagahime) — famous as a god of good relationships — and 木花開耶姫命 (Konohanasakuyahime) — known as the deity of beauty and Mt. Fuji. Descending the staircase reveals an expansive view of Mt. Fuji beyond the torii, adorned by cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage in fall.

About Mt. Fuji Panorama Ropeway
Ropeway and Summit Plaza
The ropeway travels to the summit of 天上山 (Kachikachi Yama) in approximately two and a half minutes, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and the full expanse of Lake Kawaguchi. The summit plaza at 1,075 meters provides an iconic view of Mt. Fuji and the lake throughout the changing seasons.

Kachikachi Yama Scenic Swing (カチカチ山絶景ブランコ) — paid
A large swing set about 3.5 meters high, positioned at a premium viewpoint even higher than the main observation deck, facing Mt. Fuji. Riders get the sensation of soaring into the unobstructed panorama. (Fee: ¥500 per person)

Panoramic Corridor (絶景パノラマ回廊)
A gentle universal-design slope connects the ropeway station to the summit plaza, allowing everyone to enjoy sweeping views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi without navigating steep stairs.
Takeda Shingen Warring States Plaza — Scenic Watchtower (武田信玄の戦国広場 絶景やぐら)
A cantilevered viewing platform extending from a cliff at 1,110 meters — the highest point at the summit — delivers an unobstructed, unrivaled panoramic view of Mt. Fuji for those who venture to its tip.

Tanuki Chaya (たぬき茶屋)
A teahouse styled like a mountain-pass rest stop from folktales, serving light meals such as charcoal-grilled mitarashi dango, along with Kachikachi Yama-themed souvenirs.
