A New Stay-and-Play Experience — THE MIST GAME Murder Mystery Opens at Kasuminoura Nagomi in Ibaraki

Kasuminoura Nagomi, a ryokan beside Lake Kasumigaura in Itako City, Ibaraki Prefecture, has launched an original murder mystery experience titled THE MIST GAME, developed in collaboration with murder mystery company Korekara Mystery. The program combines an immersive storyline with a full ryokan stay, making the inn itself a part of the narrative. Reservations are now open.

Three Key Features

1. A Ryokan Stay Woven into the Story

One of the defining aspects of THE MIST GAME is how it integrates genuine storytelling with quality ryokan hospitality. The lakeside setting of Kasuminoura Nagomi — its stillness, pace, and atmosphere — forms the backdrop for the gameplay. The entire inn is reserved exclusively for the participating group, allowing guests to explore every corner of the building as part of the mystery. The combination of puzzle-solving excitement and the quiet atmosphere of a lakeside inn creates something distinct from both a conventional mystery event and an ordinary ryokan stay.

2. Three Games Running Simultaneously

THE MIST GAME uses a distinctive structure in which multiple games progress at the same time. Participants play as members of a phantom thief gang called "Moonlight," each competing to become the next leader. Working in pairs, players take on a series of challenges across three game formats:

  • A treasure hunt requiring keen observation
  • A treasure appraisal game built around negotiation
  • A puzzle-solving game testing logical reasoning

Combining these different gameplay elements creates a level of immersion and strategic depth not typically found in traditional murder mystery formats. The murder mystery elements are kept relatively light, making the experience approachable for first-timers and families.

3. Ryokan Hospitality Without Compromise

Kasuminoura Nagomi operates as a full-fledged ryokan throughout the experience. Cuisine showcasing locally sourced seasonal ingredients and guest rooms featuring cypress or ceramic private baths remain at the center of the stay. The calm lakeside scenery and unhurried pace of the surroundings add to the sense of stepping away from everyday life.

THE MIST GAME

A vast treasure lies hidden within the lakeside inn, Nagomi. The phantom thief gang "Moonlight" has gathered with one goal in mind. As members of the gang, players must compete in treasure hunts, negotiation challenges, and puzzle games — all while vying for the position of leader. Who to trust, and who to deceive? Victory goes to the player with the sharpest strategy and boldest decisions. "Those who lose will fade into the mist."
