Nakamuraya Relaunches Teriyaki Chicken Manju with Enhanced Flavor - Perfect for Students and After-School Snacks

Nakamuraya Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo; President Hiroyuki Shimada) has renewed its Chinese-style steamed bun product "Nikuman and Teriyaki Chicken Manju 6-Piece Pack" based on customer feedback. The limited-edition product went on sale at supermarkets in the Kanto area on January 3, 2026 (Saturday).

Nakamuraya's popular Chinese-style steamed buns sold at supermarkets are now joined by the returning limited-edition "Teriyaki Chicken Manju," which features an improved, more delicious recipe.

Background of the Renewal

  • Nakamuraya's Chinese-style steamed buns for supermarkets have seen increasing demand across various eating occasions since their individual packaging launch in 2021. The convenient microwave preparation has made them popular for busy mornings, breakfast meals, and quick snacks when feeling a bit hungry. In response to this trend, the company has been working to "create a food culture" where people eat Chinese-style steamed buns throughout the year by proposing new eating occasions.

  • In January 2025, timed with exam season, Nakamuraya released the "Nikuman and Teriyaki Chicken Manju 6-Piece Pack" for a limited time, targeting use as a snack for children before cram school or extracurricular activities. The product was well received by a wide range of customers.

  • Following numerous requests for re-release, Nakamuraya has brought back the "Nikuman and Teriyaki Chicken Manju 6-Piece Pack" for a limited time. Based on feedback from customers who purchased the product last year, the company has revised the teriyaki sauce flavor to deliver a more satisfying taste with enhanced richness and depth for both first-time buyers and repeat customers.

Teriyaki Chicken Manju Product Features

POINT 1: Enhanced Rich and Sweet-Savory Teriyaki Sauce with Brown Sugar

The teriyaki sauce now includes brown sugar, adding the unique sweetness and depth that only brown sugar can provide. The combination of sweet-savory teriyaki sauce and mild mayo sauce creates a well-balanced, distinctive flavor. The rich yet mellow taste is easy for anyone to enjoy, making it perfect for the cold season.

POINT 2: Easy-to-Heat Convenient Individual Packaging

No wrapping needed - anyone can easily heat them in the microwave in their individual packaging. Perfect as a quick snack during breaks before extracurricular activities or for an energy boost during study sessions. This makes them an ideal supporter for parents and students working hard toward entrance exams.

About Nakamuraya's Chinese Steamed Buns

Nakamuraya was founded in 1901 (Meiji 34) as a bakery. After the founding couple encountered Chinese baozi during a visit to China, the company began selling what we now call "Chinese steamed buns" in 1927 (Showa 2) under the name "Tenkaippin Shinamanjū."

When first launched, Chinese craftsmen hand-wrapped the buns and steamed them in bamboo steamers for service. Today, the company continues to conduct daily research to deliver this same deliciousness, developing dough using proprietary yeast and fillings that leverage the cooking techniques cultivated in their restaurants.

Under its corporate philosophy of "Pursuing true value and sharing that joy," Nakamuraya continues to propose foods that blend into everyday life and bring delight to customers through creativity, innovation, and challenge.
