Over 270,000 Custom Burger Combinations!? About "Hatena Burger," the Nintendo Museum Café

We introduce the cafe "Hatena Burger" that opened within Nintendo Museum in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, which opened on October 2, 2024.

About Nintendo Museum

Nintendo Museum is a public relations facility created by renovating the Nintendo Uji Ogura Factory that was used from 1969 to 2016. The museum allows visitors to learn about and experience Nintendo's history of entertainment and their commitment to creative manufacturing through exhibits of numerous products they have released.

"Hatena Burger" offers museum visitors a chance to experience "entertainment" not just through exhibits but also during their dining experience. The shop was named after the "question mark blocks" from Nintendo's "Super Mario" series (blocks that reveal unknown contents when hit), as customers can freely create original burgers.

At Hatena Burger, customers can create original burgers with 3 types of buns, 5 main ingredients (10 types including double sizes), 11 toppings (customers can choose 3), and 7 sauces, resulting in over 270,000 possible combinations. The toppings include Kyoto-specific ingredients such as "Kujo negi" (green onions), "Manganji peppers," and "shiba-zuke" (pickled vegetables). The process of combining burger ingredients resembles creating a game character.

Familiar dishes take on new forms when adapted into burgers. Customers can enjoy ingredients inspired by classic Japanese dishes like "sukiyaki," "oyakodon" (chicken and egg rice bowl), and "saikyo-yaki" (miso-marinated grilled fish) served between buns. The cafe also offers drinks including "Peach & Cheese," a sweet and tangy peach and berry drink, and "Green Tea Float" made with matcha from Horii Shichimeien, a Uji tea shop established in 1879.
