Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium to Hold "Coral Spawning Exhibition 2026" with World-Exclusive Displays

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium (Motobu Town, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture) is holding "Coral Spawning Exhibition 2026" to coincide with coral spawning season. The exhibition offers visitors a chance to experience the mysterious world of coral reproduction through displays, events, and online content.

Content Centered on coral spawning displays using the world's only environmentally controlled spawning full-control technology, the exhibition also features limited-period displays of coral larvae and juvenile corals, explanatory panels, and an egg scent experience — all designed to introduce visitors to the mechanisms of coral reproduction.

First-Ever Nighttime Backyard Spawning Observation — "Coral Spawning Watch Night?!"

A joint project with the University of the Ryukyus, this after-hours tour invites participants into aquarium backyard tanks that are normally off-limits to the public.

Simultaneous Spawning Live Stream

Date One or several days in mid-May to early June / around 10:00 PM
Content A live broadcast will be streamed on the aquarium's official Instagram, timed to coincide with the simultaneous spawning of corals in the "Coral Sea" tank — one of the largest coral reef aquarium tanks in Japan. A commentator will explain the annual, one-of-a-kind ecology of Acropora corals in an engaging way.

Live streaming may not be possible depending on the condition of the animals.
An advance notice will be posted on the official Instagram Stories before each broadcast.
