An interactive sound exhibition called OTO MART is set to open in Shibuya, Tokyo on April 29, 2026, running through May 17. Billed as a "supermarket of sound," the exhibition brings together over 500 "good sounds" collected from around the world, letting visitors freely listen to, combine, and compose their own original tracks. Details on the venue layout, exclusive merchandise, and official collaboration sounds have now been announced.
The event is a joint project between CHOCOLATE Inc. and NTT DOCOMO STUDIOS & LIVE, part of their collaborative initiative called "Sound Grounds."
Venue Layout
Inside the venue, sounds are arranged in themed zones. Sections such as "Baby Sounds," "School Sounds," and "Everyday Sounds" are laid out along the walls so that exploring them feels like walking through the stages of one person's life. Other corners include "Sounds That Look Delicious" (food-related sounds) and "World Sounds" (an exotic mix of sounds from abroad). The exhibition goes beyond simple listening, offering new perspectives on sound through themes ranging from daily life and the history of sound to unexpected connections between different sounds.

Compose Music with Six Parts
All sounds in the exhibition are categorized into six parts: Beat, Bass, Harmony, Lead, Percussion, and FX. By layering a balanced selection from each category, anyone can compose a piece of music with ease—no musical background required.

Official Collaboration Sounds
Two sounds familiar from social media are joining OTO MART as official collaboration sounds. The first is the "Dog That Goes 'Yon'"—a dog whose bark went viral online—and the second is "Bakyun," a sound associated with pop creator Asagii-nyo's YouTube channel. Both can be freely mixed with any of the 500+ other sounds on display.

Your Creation Becomes a Postcard
After composing a sound at OTO MART, visitors can share it on X (Twitter). Within about 10 minutes, the creation will be printed as a postcard and displayed on a rack inside the venue. Visitors can take their own postcard home as a memento. It's also possible to scan the QR codes on other visitors' postcards to listen to their compositions—and pick up a favorite to keep.

Limited-Edition OTO Stickers
Exclusive to the event, a set of "OTO Stickers" designed after the sound panels displayed in the venue will be on sale. Each pack contains 5 random designs and is priced at ¥700 (tax included).

About OTO MART
OTO MART is a "supermarket of sound"—an experience-based exhibition dedicated entirely to sounds. Among the 500+ sounds collected from around the world are a giraffe call, a saxophone note, a fart sound, and even the sound of frantically realizing that a carelessly set plastic bag has eggs in it. Visitors can ring any of these freely while exploring the world of sound.
These sounds share a hidden secret: for example, layering the sound of a violin with the sound of pounding mochi and adding festival hayashi music together creates something entirely new. The total number of possible combinations exceeds 9,999 trillion.
