NewMake Hosts Original Embroidery Workshop in Harajuku to Give New Value to Everyday Items

NewMake, a circular creative community operated by STORY&Co., is hosting an embroidery workshop on July 1, 2026, at PATCH&PLAY — an embroidery and repair shop in Harajuku, Tokyo. The event invites participants to add original embroidery to items they already own, giving new life to ready-made goods.

Interest in customizing ready-made items with personal touches — and in upcycling beloved possessions to extend their life — has been growing in recent years. At the same time, embroidery and sewing are often seen as requiring specialized skills and equipment, making hands-on opportunities relatively scarce.

At this workshop, participants use an illustration they have created on their smartphone or tablet as input for the SKiTCH PP1 embroidery machine, which produces a finished embroidery patch in around 10 minutes. The completed patch can then be applied to a shirt, denim, tote bag, or other item brought by the participant to take home the same day.

The event offers endless creative possibilities: preserving a child's drawing as a keepsake, making fan merchandise, or simply personalizing a favorite piece. The experience is designed for first-timers and anyone curious about embroidery or sewing, focusing on the joy of making by hand while exploring new ways to treasure and extend the life of everyday items.
