A glass art exhibition by glass artist Takumi Hon'ami, the "Takumi Hon'ami Glass Installation," will be held in the public areas of ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts in Kita-ku, Kyoto, for a limited 10 days from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Takagamine, where the hotel stands, is a historic part of Kyoto steeped in the aesthetic of Rinpa, one of the major currents of Japanese art. Set in the hotel's public areas, surrounded by nature, the exhibition presents glass art by Hon'ami, who carries on the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship while giving new value to materials such as optical glass.
The glass works, which let through the shifting moods of the mountains and clear light, resonate with the nature of Takagamine and the hotel's spaces, creating a new art world where traditional aesthetics and contemporary sensibility meet.

About the Artist, Takumi Hon'ami

Takumi Hon'ami / Photographer: 鈴木正美
Takumi Hon'ami (Hon'ami Takumi) is a glass craft artist and a direct 17th-generation descendant of Hon'ami Koetsu. After training at a glass craft institute in Tokyo (東京ガラス工芸研究所), he founded the glassblowing studio "GLASS FISH" in Chikura, Chiba, in 2000.
Rather than stopping at an imitation ("utsushi") of his great ancestor, he continues to pursue expression unique to the present day. While respecting tradition, he creates innovative works that serve as a starting point for a new culture leading into the future.
Entrance Area Installation "Kikai"
"Kikai" (記械) is a word coined by Hon'ami. It reflects his own idea of imagining a mechanism for organizing the time and memories within oneself and giving them form.
Countless memories well up from the bottom of the water, overlapping in layers and accumulating toward the surface. Hon'ami expresses these fragments of memory through a group of his glass works. The scene, in which things that never fade coexist with things that lose their shape and are eventually lost, is created in the space that first greets visitors.
