Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama, an inn in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, where sea breezes and history meet, has been listed in the MICHELIN Guide 2026 Hotel Selection with 1 MICHELIN Key.
This marks the third consecutive year that the ryokan has earned 1 MICHELIN Key, since 2024.
The ryokan inherits the design of "Nishiyama Bekkan," a historic inn founded in 1943, and carries on the spirit of "Saen (茶園)," a social gathering place loved by literary figures and celebrities. To mark the third consecutive year, the ryokan says it will continue to offer a "stay that savors the memories of a port town," which can only be experienced here, built around three attractions: "tradition," "detached guest rooms," and "Onomichi Gastronomy."

Three Highlights of Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama
1. Tradition: The Legacy of "Nishiyama Bekkan," Founded in 1943, and Onomichi's "Saen" Culture
The ryokan carries on "Nishiyama Bekkan," Onomichi's guesthouse for distinguished visitors, which has welcomed many literati and dignitaries since its founding in 1943 (Showa 18). It revives the aesthetic of "Saen (茶園)," the social gathering place where wealthy merchants once exchanged ideas through the tea ceremony and embraced foreign cultures.
The sukiya-style architecture and spaces that keep the atmosphere of history intact invite guests on a cultural journey across time.
2. Detached Guest Rooms: Just 11 Quiet, Private Rooms Overlooking a Lawn Garden
The guest rooms are arranged around a spacious lawn garden. There are 11 rooms in total: 6 detached buildings with 8 rooms in all, where artisans' traditional techniques are alive, including "Wara no Ie" with its thatched roof, and 3 rooms in the main building, which pursues refined simplicity.
The detached rooms offer complete privacy and quiet, and guests can spend calm time unlike everyday life, resting with a freed mind.

3. Dining: "Onomichi Gastronomy" That Savors the Memories of a Port Town
At the open-kitchen restaurant "Yosoro (ようそろ)," the ryokan serves "Onomichi Gastronomy," which reconstructs the context of Onomichi's "history, trade, preservation, and fermentation." The dishes blend three elements, the "Terroir of the Sea," the "Terroir of Agriculture," and the "Terroir of History and Culture," and the sommelier offers a choice of two carefully selected wine pairings (local, or from renowned French wine regions). The dining also includes a "Breakfast Gastronomy" in which local fish is grilled over a shichirin charcoal stove. Throughout the stay, guests can taste how essential the land of Onomichi is to the cuisine, with all five senses.

About the MICHELIN Key
The MICHELIN Key is an international rating indicator from the MICHELIN Guide, awarded to outstanding hotels and ryokan around the world, much like the "stars" for restaurants. It is given to properties carefully selected from comprehensive perspectives, including architecture and interior design, quality of service, experiences worth the price, and contribution to the local community.
About the Restaurant "Yosoro"
At "Yosoro," an open dining space with a live kitchen, chefs well versed in the region prepare dishes before guests' eyes, pursuing the necessity of "a reason to eat here." In a space where artisans' craft is alive, guests can enjoy a gastronomy experience that engages the five senses.
