Sango, a stay-type complex facility in Haruka-cho, Otaru City, Hokkaido, developed by Sanzo Komuten Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Sapporo, Hokkaido; Representative Director: Yuki Tanaka), has received the internationally recognized design award "iF DESIGN AWARD 2026" in the "Interior Architecture" category.
Selected from over 10,000 entries submitted from 68 countries and regions, the award was determined through a rigorous judging process conducted by 129 design experts.
iF International Forum Design, based in Hanover, Germany, is an independent design organization with a history of over 70 years — the longest of any such body in the world. Each year it selects and recognizes outstanding designs through the "iF DESIGN AWARD." Since 1954, the award has been regarded as one of the most internationally prestigious design honors, and the iF logo is widely recognized as a mark of design excellence.

About Sango
Sango is a stay-type complex facility built around the concept of "a mountain where the life of Hokkaido gathers." It held its grand opening on May 23, 2025, in Haruka-cho, Otaru City, Hokkaido.
The facility features five villas themed on "staying as if living," a commercial building and shop sharing local food and culture, a calligrapher's gallery, and gazebos and decks where visitors can spend time at their own pace. All structures make extensive use of Hokkaido-grown timber — including Dahurian larch, oak, ash, and southern Hokkaido cedar — alongside local materials such as Sapporo soft stone (Sapporo Nanseki), realizing architecture that quietly blends into the natural landscape of Haruka.
Sanzo Komuten, which handles planning, design, construction, leasing, operations, and facilities management entirely in-house as a group, continues to nurture a place that grows alongside the local community even after the buildings are complete.
