Sapporo Prince Hotel (札幌プリンスホテル) in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido will serve a limited-time afternoon tea called "Penguin Romance" (ペンギン・ロマンス) from Tuesday, December 1, 2026 to Thursday, January 14, 2027. It is a collaboration with the urban aquarium AOAO SAPPORO (Minami 2-jo Nishi 3-chome, Chuo-ku, Sapporo), and the tea is served at "Sky Lounge Top of Prince" (スカイラウンジ トップ オブ プリンス) on the top floor of the hotel.
About the Collaboration
The hotel is a place that accompanies milestones such as anniversaries, proposals, and family celebrations. AOAO SAPPORO, meanwhile, shares the connections and charms of life through the behavior of its animals under the theme "The Wonder of Life: Seeing the Unseen" (生命のワンダー ～みえないものがみえてくる～).
The collaboration focuses on penguins, whose courtship season begins in December. The way they think of their partners, express their feelings, and build bonds has much in common with the ties between people. Based on this idea, the two facilities created an afternoon tea themed around "thoughts for someone special."

- A "love story" of penguins: Inspired by the courtship behavior of the penguins seen at AOAO SAPPORO, the sweets are decorated with hearts and pink touches, using northern rockhopper penguins (キタイワトビペンギン) and fairy penguins (フェアリーペンギン) as motifs.
- A warm tea time for the cold season: The sweets express feelings for someone dear, so the tea can be enjoyed with friends, family, or a partner along with the story behind each item.
Sweets Lineup
The sweets include the following.
- Oshiri Penpen (おしりペンペン), white chocolate and coconut dome: Modeled on the fluffy, adorable bottom of a northern rockhopper penguin. It evokes the courtship behavior of snuggling up to someone of interest or turning backs to each other.
- Northern Rockhopper Penguin Chick (キタイワトビペンギンのヒナ), rare cheese mousse: A fluffy, lovable baby penguin who will be born in the future.
- Northern Rockhopper Penguin's Approach (キタイワトビペンギンのアプローチ), chocolate tart: Inspired by a northern rockhopper penguin trembling its decorative feathers to show its presence.
- Love by the Water (恋する水辺), strawberry mousse and citrus jelly verrine: A glass dessert inspired by the water's edge where penguins live. Sparkling jelly expresses the penguins' racing hearts.
- I'm Here Too, Fairy Penguin (ぼくもいるよ フェアリーペンギン), bamboo charcoal and haskap jam macaron: The "world's smallest penguin" seen at AOAO SAPPORO is tucked in.
- Feelings I Want to Deliver (届けたい想い), ruby chocolate heart-shaped mousse: Penguins convey their feelings through actions rather than words. Their single-minded devotion is put into a heart-shaped cake.
- Love Apple, apple compote and vanilla mousse: The flower language of the apple is "affection." The sweet carries the meaning that the feelings of penguins in courtship season bear fruit.
- The Beginning of Love (恋のはじまり), strawberry chocolate canelé: Sweet and slightly sour, the strawberry is like a first love. It expresses the pure feelings penguins hold.
- Love Nest, Hokkaido milk ice cream and strawberry jelly parfait: During courtship, northern rockhopper penguins gather pebbles and twigs as nest materials. The ice cream is modeled on an egg raised with care in a nest built with great effort, and is served in a parfait style.
