Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu, located in Dogenzaka, Shibuya, will host the "AKITA CONNECTION" fair from May 8 (Friday) to June 30 (Tuesday), 2026. Themed around "connecting with Akita from the heart of Shibuya," the event showcases the rich flavors and cultural heritage of Akita Prefecture across three of the hotel's restaurants.
The backdrop to this collaboration is a long-standing bond between Shibuya and Akita, rooted in the story of Hachiko the dog. Through ties with Hachiko's hometown, Odate City in Akita Prefecture, the relationship between the two regions has deepened over the years — including the transfer of a retired Tokyu 5000 series train (affectionately known as "Aogaeru") from Shibuya Ward to Odate City in 2020. This fair is one expression of that continuing exchange.
Inside the hotel's restaurants and common spaces, visitors will find displays of Akita Inu stuffed toys, Namahage masks, birch craft (kabazaiku), and bentwood (magewappa) items, evoking the spirit of Akita. Ndacchi — Akita Prefecture's PR character, depicted as a Namahage-type child robot from the near future — also appears throughout the hotel and its key visuals, adding a playful touch to the Akita atmosphere.
