SHIBUYA STREAM HOTEL Serves Chocolate-Themed Afternoon Tea "Café du Chocolat" From November 1

Bar & Dining "TORRENT" at SHIBUYA STREAM HOTEL in Shibuya, Tokyo, will serve "STREAM Afternoon Tea: Café du Chocolat" starting Sunday, November 1, 2026.

This season's afternoon tea is built entirely around chocolate. With autumn deepening and winter just beginning to make itself felt in November, the sweets use bitter, milk, and white chocolate, fresh caramel chocolate, and more, paired with tart fruit, smooth textures, and crisp bites so that each item shows a different side of chocolate. The savory items use chocolate too, and the flavors change from dish to dish so the menu stays interesting through to the end.

Top Tier: Petit Fours for Chocolate Lovers

A three-layer verrine stacks rich bitter chocolate pudding, crunchy streusel, and a tart berry compote, so every spoonful brings a different flavor and texture. The chocolate choux pairs the bittersweet chocolate with the rich sweetness and toasty aroma of "Caramel Épice Cream," a smooth cream made from caramelized sugar and fresh cream. The tier also includes a chocolate-dipped stick pie with the sweetness of honey and the spiciness of black pepper, and a fresh caramel chocolate with a deep, grown-up flavor. Together with a financier and a langue de chat, the tier offers chocolate sweets that each differ in flavor and texture.

Middle Tier: Cacao and Chocolate, Enjoyed Differently

Gnocchi kneaded with cacao comes in a gorgonzola cream sauce with a distinct cheese flavor. A crêpe wrapped around smoked salmon and basil potato has a moderate saltiness that works between the sweets. The chocolate banana sandwich holds caramelized banana and chocolate cream, and is lightly sweet. Flavors on the tier move from rich to mildly salty to gently sweet.

Bottom Tier: Scones With Yuzu and White Chocolate

Two scones are served: the classic Guérande salt scone and a yuzu scone with a refreshing citrus aroma. The yuzu scone is flavorful on its own, but the menu recommends pairing it with the white chocolate sauce, which combines the mellow sweetness of white chocolate with the refreshing acidity and slight bitterness of yuzu. The sauce also works with the mildly salty Guérande salt scone, for a contrast of sweet and salty. Diners can try both to see which pairing they prefer.

Savory Plate: Grown-Up Bites That Invite a Glass of Wine

The cacao sablé with chicken mole is a take on the Mexican dish "mole," which uses chocolate and spices. The chicken's savory flavor is spiced, and the cacao flavor spreads through the mouth as the dish is eaten. A Parmesan cheese mousse comes with salty chocolate crispy bacon, a combination with a flavor that goes well with wine. The plate also includes cinnamon-scented pumpkin soup, a bamboo charcoal choux with kumquat and cottage cheese, and a cream cheese bonbon with apple for texture, all meant to be enjoyed between the sweets.

Starter Dessert: Pudding With Chocolate Instead of Caramel

A smooth pudding is layered with chocolate and topped with plenty of fresh cream, then finished with softly shaved white chocolate and strawberry chocolate. The smooth pudding and chocolate come together in the mouth for a sweet, comforting flavor.

Welcome Drink: A Bittersweet Chocolate Drink

The chocolate afternoon tea begins with a bittersweet, mellow drink. It combines the sweetness of chocolate with the bitterness of coffee, so it is not too sweet and goes down easily. The rich chocolate flavor gives way to a clean aftertaste, making it a fitting start to the afternoon tea.
