Shimane Prefectural Art Museum Presents Hokusai Collection FY2026 Period 7 From October 28

The Hokusai Exhibition Room at Shimane Prefectural Art Museum is a gallery where visitors can see works by Katsushika Hokusai at any time, which is extremely rare even by global standards. The museum's Hokusai collection numbers about 1,600 items, and the room presents works from each of Hokusai's fields, including nishiki-e (full-color woodblock prints), surimono (woodblock-printed pieces), hanpon (printed books), and nikuhitsu-ga (hand-painted works).

From October 28, the room will hold "Hokusai Collection FY2026 Period 7," displaying around 40 valuable works by Hokusai. The lineup includes Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji: Under the Wave off Kanagawa (the Great Wave), which Hokusai created in his early 70s and which is widely known internationally as a representative work of Japanese art.
