The exhibition "Shojo Manga Infinity: Moto Hagio, Ryoko Yamagishi, and Waki Yamato" is on view at The National Art Center, Tokyo in Roppongi from October 28 (Wednesday), 2026 to February 8 (Monday), 2027. It is organized by The National Art Center, Tokyo and co-organized by The Mainichi Newspapers.
About the Exhibition
Moto Hagio, Ryoko Yamagishi, and Waki Yamato each opened new horizons for shojo manga and created masterpieces that continue to be read across generations. This exhibition traces the careers of the three artists and is held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the opening of The National Art Center, Tokyo.
Shojo manga evolved dramatically in the 1970s, and the three artists were at the center of that change. The exhibition follows their creative paths from their early debut years to the present through beautiful color illustrations, original drawings of unforgettable scenes, and a range of valuable materials, offering a closer look at their profound expressive worlds. It is the first large-scale shojo manga exhibition held at a national art museum.

Comment from the Curator
Rei Yoshimura (吉村麗), senior researcher at The National Art Center, Tokyo and the person in charge of the exhibition, said:
Since 2015, The National Art Center, Tokyo has taken up a wide range of cultures, including manga, anime, games, and tokusatsu (live-action special effects productions), but this is the first time we are holding a large-scale exhibition focused solely on shojo manga. The exhibition presents the works of three artists who have continued to take on challenges at the forefront from the late 1960s to the present. Through their works, it offers a valuable opportunity to unpack the innovation and diversity of expression that shojo manga has cultivated, as well as its great influence on manga culture as a whole. We hope visitors will come to the venue and experience their overwhelming expressive power.
