Compact, Lightweight Design
Turning sensor size into mobility: the advantage of APS-C
The lens delivers a 75-180mm range in 35mm equivalent at a constant F2.8. Even with an image stabilization mechanism and Sigma's proprietary HLA linear motor for autofocus on board, it measures just 99mm in length and weighs 390g*. Compared with a full-frame 70-200mm F2.8 lens, it is half the length while still offering the brightness of a full-fledged F2.8 telephoto lens, ready for a wide range of shooting scenes.

Compactness across the whole series
With the currently available 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary and 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary, the addition of the 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary completes a series of constant-F2.8 zoom lenses running from ultra-wide to telephoto. All three lenses together weigh 1kg or less, making it possible to build a system that maximizes a photographer's mobility.
Optical Performance and Functionality Without Compromise
Lens construction
The lens uses one FLD glass element, three SLD glass elements, and four aspherical glass elements, a specification beyond what is typical for its class, to correct various aberrations and achieve very high contrast.
Optical design that suppresses focus breathing
The design keeps focus breathing in check. Because the change in angle of view while focusing is minimized, it supports natural-looking video with little change in composition.
Features that approach high-end lenses
Despite being a compact APS-C telephoto zoom, the lens offers high-end-level functionality, including OS image stabilization rated at 6.5 stops at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end*, and agile autofocus from Sigma's proprietary HLA linear motor.
*Based on CIPA standards (measured with an APS-C mirrorless camera at focal lengths of 50mm and 120mm).
Intuitive Controls for Everyday Use
Simple, easy-to-understand operation
Despite its high functionality, the lens does without switches such as the AF/MF switch and OS switch, resulting in a simple, easy-to-understand interface.
Dust- and splash-resistant construction and a water- and oil-repellent coating
In addition to a dust- and splash-resistant construction*, the front surface of the lens has a water- and oil-repellent coating, so it can be used with confidence in demanding outdoor environments.
*The construction is designed to resist dust and splashes but is not waterproof. When using the lens near water, take care to keep large amounts of water from splashing onto it. Water entering the lens may cause a malfunction.
