St. Regis Hotel Osaka Presents "St. Regis Afternoon Tea with TANEYA" for a Bountiful Autumn of Wagashi

St. Regis Hotel Osaka (3-6-12 Honmachi, Chuo-ku, Osaka; General Manager Luna Bajracharya) welcomes back Taneya, a confectioner with over 150 years of history rooted in Omi and devoted to sweets that honor Japan's nature and traditional culture, for their fourth collaboration together. "St. Regis Afternoon Tea with TANEYA" will be served at St. Regis Bar from Tuesday, September 1 through Sunday, November 15, 2026.

Taneya's wagashi sensibility and St. Regis's afternoon tea ritual have grown more attuned with each collaboration, and this autumn's theme is "Autumn Sweets to Fall For."

Building on Taneya's signature autumn confections, the menu layers in flavors that deepen with the season, such as chestnut and hojicha, alongside sweets created exclusively for this collaboration and St. Regis's own arrangements. Paired with savories that reflect the same wagashi sensibility, the lineup lets sweet and savory notes play off each other for a taste experience found only this autumn.

St. Regis Afternoon Tea with TANEYA sweets

Sweets

Warabi Mochi with Hojicha, with a shelf life of just 30 seconds, is served warm and then rapidly chilled, giving it a texture that melts the instant it touches the tongue. It is finished with a fragrant hojicha syrup made from hojicha grown in Asamiya, Shiga Prefecture, leaving a gentle, lingering sweetness. Kuri Gekka Mille-Feuille reimagines one of Taneya's signature confections through St. Regis's sensibility: layers of fragrant, airy pastry set off the dense flavor of Japanese chestnut, releasing its rich aroma with every bite.

Nama-dora Kuri Mini, available only with this afternoon tea, uses an egg-rich dough that carries a soft hint of honey, filled with Japanese chestnut mont blanc paste, St. Regis's original fresh cream, and sweet red bean paste. The dense flavor of Japanese chestnut melds smoothly with the gentle sweetness of the cream. Pistachio Daifuku uses pistachios from Bronte, Sicily — a rare variety that accounts for less than one percent of the world's harvest. Pistachio paste is combined with roasted, crushed pistachio kernels still in their skins, then wrapped in smooth strained bean paste and Habutae-mochi glutinous rice grown in Shiga Prefecture, with crushed pistachio pieces coating the outside for a rich aroma, deep flavor, and varied texture.

The jōnamagashi (fresh Japanese confections) change design over the course of the run to reflect the shifting season, moving through chrysanthemum, cosmos, and other autumn motifs. A plan featuring two types of jōnamagashi is also available, including Kurikinton, made to preserve the texture of whole steamed chestnut pieces. This plan comes with a St. Regis Hotel Osaka–exclusive package of Fukumi Tenpyo, one of Taneya's signature confections, as a take-home gift for enjoying the tastes of autumn at home.

St. Regis Afternoon Tea with TANEYA savories

Savories

The savories draw on the food culture of Shiga, Taneya's home, and the bounty of autumn, layering ingredient pairings, color, and texture so that sweetness and saltiness play off each other in rhythm.

Yama-uni Tofu and Tuna Mille-Feuille with Fukumi Tenpyo uses the monaka wafer from Taneya's signature Fukumi Tenpyo to sandwich yama-uni-style tofu and tuna, its fragrant, light crunch setting off the concentrated umami within. Grilled Mochi and Wagyu Roast Beef Canapé with Comté Cheese and Yamagata Akegarashi builds on Taneya's grilled mochi made with Omi rice, layering the umami of wagyu, the richness of Comté cheese, and a gentle heat from Yamagata-grown akegarashi mustard for a deep, layered flavor.

Omihachiman Red Konnyaku and Duck Rillette Sandwich with Sake Lees Mascarpone uses red konnyaku, a specialty of Omihachiman, prized for its distinctive springiness and clean bite; it is paired with rich duck rillette and a mascarpone made mellow with sake lees, bringing French culinary technique to a local Shiga ingredient. Tamba Black Soybean and Kuri-Kabocha Quiche with French Blue Cheese pairs the tender sweetness of chestnut pumpkin and the rich flavor of Tamba black soybeans with the pungent saltiness of blue cheese, evoking the bounty of autumn.

St. Regis Hotel Osaka exclusive gift set

During the same period, Brasserie RÉGINE on the hotel's first floor will also sell an original gift set exclusive to St. Regis Hotel Osaka, pairing Fukumi Tenpyo and Kuri Gekka — two of Taneya's signature confections — in special packaging designed for St. Regis. It is intended as a gift for someone special or a souvenir to color an autumn outing.

In every sweet and savory, Taneya's wagashi sensibility meets St. Regis's refinement. Building on traditions already rich in flavor, this season-only gathering offers a new way to enjoy wagashi.
