Sumiyaki Unafuji, the Nagoya-Based Unagi Restaurant, Opens Two New Locations in Osaka

Two new Osaka locations are set to open for Sumiyaki Unafuji, a celebrated unagi restaurant that originated in Nagoya. Following the warm reception of its Osaka Umeda location, which opened in March 2025, the chain is continuing its expansion in the Kansai region with new stores in Yodoyabashi and Shinsaibashi.

New Store Concept

Semba has long been the commercial and economic heart of Osaka, with roots stretching back to the Toyotomi era when it flourished as a merchant quarter. To its north lies Yodoyabashi, one of Japan's leading financial districts, while Shinsaibashi to the south is one of the region's premier shopping and entertainment areas. Together, these two districts have long supported Osaka's vitality through business and commerce.

Sumiyaki Unafuji chose these locations for its Yodoyabashi and Shinsaibashi stores to embody the spirit of celebratory dining rooted in Semba's merchant culture — offering a place where guests can mark milestones and special moments in their everyday lives.
