A new wellness facility called THE NOMU is opening in the heart of Fukuoka's Tenjin area on March 5, 2026. Dedicated to physical and mental recovery, the space offers fully private rooms that combine low-temperature mist bathing with carefully curated scent, light, and sound — creating an immersive self-care experience within the city center.
Background: Making Rest Accessible in Modern Urban Life
As lifestyles grow busier and information-overload becomes the norm, many people find themselves carrying chronic fatigue and tension with little time to properly rest. THE NOMU was created in response to this reality — designed around four core values:
- N – Nurture
- O – Origin
- M – Mindfulness
- U – Unwind
Together, these principles form the facility's guiding mission: to nourish people from their core, gently unwind the mind and body, and restore a natural rhythm. Rather than positioning itself as a special-occasion destination, THE NOMU aims to be a place visitors can drop by as part of everyday life. Its location in central Tenjin makes it easy to access on a regular basis.
Fully Private Immersive Bathing Experience

The defining feature of THE NOMU is its fully private, single-occupancy design. Enveloped in approximately 42°C (107°F) low-temperature mist, guests can focus entirely on their own senses without concern for others around them. Three methods work in combination to deepen relaxation:
Method 01 | Low-Temperature Mist
Gentle low-temperature mist at approximately 42°C wraps the entire body, easing tension without placing excessive strain on the system. In the quiet of a private room, guests are encouraged to turn their attention to their breathing and physical sensations, allowing everyday stress to dissolve gradually.
Method 02 | Scent
Traditional Kyoto incense is burned inside each private room, enhancing the sense of stillness. High-quality Japanese essential oil mist sprays are also provided within the bathing area to further deepen the relaxing effect.
Method 03 | Light and Sound
Soft lighting and gently resonant sound work together to create a calm, layered atmosphere throughout the space. The combination acts quietly on the senses to still the mind, offering a sense of depth and separation from the outside world.
THE NOMU is designed as a self-care space — a place to gently restore balance in daily life — rather than a medical or therapeutic facility.
Design Rooted in Japanese Craft and Tradition
The Nomuraya Group, which operates THE NOMU, was founded in 1913 and has spent over a century working in construction and architectural materials. THE NOMU reflects this heritage, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with a contemporary sensibility. The facility's crest draws on the Shippō (七宝) pattern from Japanese antiquity and the culture of roof tiles — motifs symbolizing circulation, regeneration, and connection.

JAPAN QUALITY: Where Wa and Zen Meet

THE NOMU expresses a contemporary take on the Japanese Wa and Zen spirit through its private, unhurried experience. Premium domestically produced skincare products, original towels, and seasonal details reflect a commitment to quality at every level. The space changes subtly with the seasons, offering something new with each visit.

A Complete Private Space, from Meditation to Getting Ready

From the meditation session through getting ready to leave, THE NOMU provides a fully private environment where each guest moves at their own pace.
Meditation Room

Free of excess decoration, the meditation room envelops guests in the warmth of wood and soft light. The environment is designed to help both mind and body arrive at a natural sense of balance.
Shower Room

After the meditation session, guests can cool and refresh in the shower room. Stone textures and warm lighting create a calm, grounded atmosphere, while the sound of running water adds a further layer of tranquility.
Powder Space

The powder space features warm lighting and natural wood elements, allowing guests to take their time getting ready to leave while maintaining the quiet mood cultivated throughout the visit.
Retail Area
A curated retail area presents a selection of carefully chosen items arranged with care. The space invites visitors to take a small piece of the THE NOMU experience home with them.
