Tokyo Disney Resort will host the special summer event "サマー・クールオフ at Tokyo Disney Resort" (Summer Cool-Off at Tokyo Disney Resort) from July 2 (Thursday) to September 14 (Monday), 2026. In step with the event, the resort is expanding its heat-relief measures across the parks so guests can enjoy a comfortable summer visit.
Working alongside the Center for Environmental Information Science (CEIS — 一般社団法人環境情報科学センター), a specialist organization in environmental conservation and science, Tokyo Disney Resort has developed spatial design approaches and engaging cool-down activities to help guests manage the heat, even as summer temperatures continue to climb.
The Key to Summer Spatial Design: "Above, Middle, Below" — in That Order
Measuring the Park Environment to Design a More Comfortable Summer Space

Since the 2010s, Tokyo Disney Resort has prioritized guests' and cast members' comfort by continuously refining the park environment. In 2021, the resort partnered with CEIS to measure and assess conditions at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea over approximately three months using WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) values and other metrics. The findings shaped a spatial design philosophy based on targeting heat reduction from "above, middle, below" — in that order of effectiveness — tailored to the characteristics of each area.
Addressing heat from above — shielding against solar radiation — has the greatest impact, producing the largest reductions in WBGT values.
Next in importance is the middle: improving airflow to facilitate the evaporation of perspiration and disperse accumulated heat and humidity.
Finally, measures from below focus on suppressing surface temperature rise — for example, using water evaporation through sprinkling (打ち水) to lower radiated heat.
Above: Blocking Solar Radiation
Shade structures substantially cut radiant heat by blocking direct sunlight. They also prevent surface and wall temperatures from rising beneath them, further reducing re-radiated heat. When the shade material itself stays cool, heat radiation from the shade is minimized as well.

Middle: Improving Airflow
Directing airflow onto guests promotes sweat evaporation to cool body temperature. Ventilation also carries away trapped heat and moisture from the surrounding air.

Below: Lowering Surface Temperature
Water-retentive paving and sprinkling (打ち水) suppress surface temperature rises by utilizing the cooling effect of evaporation, which reduces radiant heat from the ground.

Each location in the park has its own characteristics, and the "above, middle, below" approach is applied in combinations best suited to that space. Across Tokyo Disney Resort, air conditioners, fans, and parasols have been installed at more than 100 locations throughout the parks to create a cooler environment.
Note: CEIS has conducted research and consulting on thermal environments — including heat island countermeasures, heat protection, and heatstroke prevention — for central government ministries, local authorities, and private companies for more than 20 years. The organization has produced heat island countermeasure guidelines for the Ministry of the Environment and various public and private sector manuals.
The Most Important Thing: Interest in Your Own Health, and Enjoying the Park at Your Own Pace
A "Cool Down While Having Fun" Approach to Raising Guest Awareness
Alongside improvements to the park's physical environment, Tokyo Disney Resort is also introducing programs that encourage guests to actively manage their own health and comfort throughout the day.
A dedicated online "Heat Safety Guide" and cast-facilitated interactions in the park are designed to make heat safety feel engaging — raising guests' awareness so they can look after themselves and feel confident during their visit.

Expert-Supervised Heat Safety Checklist
New for this year, Tokyo Disney Resort has developed a downloadable heat safety checklist, created under expert supervision, that guests can save to their smartphones. The tool is intended to be a fun, practical way to stay mindful of personal health while enjoying the parks.

Stay Cool Inside and Out: Cool Services and Cold-Mark Food and Drinks

Taking care of your body while enjoying the parks is especially important during summer. To help guests — particularly children — cool down, select stores offer cold water for mist fans and cool towels. Applying a mist and then standing in the breeze is an effective way to lower skin temperature.
To also cool the body from within, lowering core temperature with cold food or beverages is recommended. Select restaurant menu boards and images on the official website now display a "cold mark" so guests can quickly identify chilled meals and drinks. Care for the body from the outside in and the inside out while enjoying all the resort has to offer.
Rest Indoors and Recharge

In addition to adding outdoor rest spots, some restaurants open earlier than usual so guests can cool off before they officially begin service. Indoor cool spaces are also available for rest throughout the day: Country Bear Theater at Tokyo Disneyland and Mermaid Lagoon Theater at Tokyo DisneySea are open for guests to relax, and facilities offering coloring and letter-writing activities let guests create Tokyo Disney Resort memories in air-conditioned comfort.
Heat Relief at Ikspiari

To provide shaded routes for guests, portions of the interior passages at Ikspiari will be open from 7:00 AM during the period July 1 (Wednesday) to September 30 (Wednesday). This is convenient for guests heading toward the Disney Ambassador Hotel direction.
Ikspiari is also registered with Urayasu City as a facility where anyone can freely rest in air-conditioned surroundings. Additional highlights this summer include:
- Splash Challenge! — a large-scale water splash event at Ikspiari (August 8, Saturday to August 16, Sunday)
- A display of recommended cool spots by CEIS (June 22, Monday to August 6, Thursday)
These offerings are perfect companions for a summer visit to the resort.
